Also, I've recently been revisiting a lot of 80s action adventure/science fiction/fantasy.
Despite the overall cultural conservatism of the decade, it's amazing to find so many populist messages.
Dragonslayer (1981) actually feels very relevant, mixing in commentary about the hypocrisy and cowardice of political leaders, a rather cynical view of Christianity, and highlighting how the upper classes shift environmental and other burdens onto the lower classes. The rich and privileged are enemies of the heroes in Gremlins (1984) and The Goonies (1985).
