So has anyone tried to put a freeze on rent and property taxes?

That would prevent many of the economic problems that is the major expense of most people and when a business is closed and not doing anything the main problem is that many of them still pay rent.
Also if any landlords complain if they don't have to pay property taxes or rent themselves they should all be fine as well.

I am not affected so I haven't looked into the details. I know that for a red state we sure do have some good social program expansion going on right now. The SNAP benefits are increased to a great degree, evictions are banned as are utility shut offs, auto registration is on hold so no tickets for expired plates... pretty good for a red state, huh?

the most i have heard is moratoriums on evictions.
i got caught w one of the 3 rental units that are my main income empty and jacked up by the last tenant.

there are bigger companies out there, but the way to handle this is to assist the renters. you cant do anything to cut back on costs. they are fixed.

I can address this question.

I fully expected that some of the nine tenants I have would need to defer on their rent - thankfully none have this month. One of my tenants wants to break her lease and live with her boyfriend and I let her know that it's fine but she will be sacrificing her security - only fair as I still have to pay property taxes and insurance and maintain the property.

As far as property taxes go, as a former council member and mayor, I know that there are essential services that need to be paid for.
Would you ask that the local police, fire department, emergency medical services and public works people to work without being compensated?

As property owner, you know there are essential services that you need to pay for.

As a former council member and mayor, you know that there are essential services the city/town needs to pay for.

As a renter--let's close the circle and say that he's a laid off worker--you know that there are essential services you need to pay for.

That's the argument for property owners expecting rent--no income, no money to pay with.

That's the argument for mayor expecting taxes--no income, no money to pay with.

That's the argument for the laid-off worker--no income, no money to pay with.

Velocity of money and all that.
