Gallup: As President Trump works to contain the damage from the novel coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., the rally in support he enjoyed as the nation entered a virtual lockdown has faded. His job approval rating, now 43%, has slipped six percentage points since mid-March when he earned 49% approval, which tied his personal best.
The six-point decline in the presidents approval rating is the sharpest drop Gallup has recorded for the Trump presidency so far, largely because Trumps ratings have been highly stable and have yet to reach the historical average for presidents (back to 1945) of 53%.

(9,998 posts)I NEED to see consistent polling in the mid-30's. That's got to be his "true base." Anything above 40% is unacceptable at this point. It was unacceptable long ago, but to see 43% still makes me cringe.

(8,043 posts)when it says Trump "works to contain the damage from the novel coronavirus outbreak..."
Trump, if he's "working" at all (and I'm loathe to apply that word to what he does) isn't doing it to contain the damage caused by the virus.
He's doing what he does to try to contain the damage to himself.
Period.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
