12. I first saw this method

on a FB post featuring a video from Japan. I tried it myself, with hair ties, but it was just too much material against my nose and mouth, and the hair ties were too small to fit around my ears without major discomfort.

Might try the t-shirt method next. There are quite a few YouTube vids on how to make no-sew face masks.
