Take it from someone who's survived multiple California fires. Hell, I even saw my neighbor's house burn to the ground on national television. My own house was in that path. We got spared. We were one of the lucky ones. But I know people in my neighborhood who've been here since that big fire that weren't so lucky. Hell, to this day we're still finding remnants of that fire even 12 years later.
Fire is something you don't want to play with. And COVID-19 is that kind of fire. Sure, you can talk numbers and statistics all you want right now. And yeah even the most hardcore MAGAs will tell you that 2% is 2%. But it isn't. If you're in a neighborhood, and there's 140 houses, and 2% of them burn, you're talking 3 houses. But those three houses alone could easily do some untold damage because of the people affected. Now let's do some math. Say that fire skips and jumps around. Those those 3 houses could easily turn into 30. Which could easily turn into 50 or 60. And up and up.
By egging on the MAGAs to protest social distancing? Guess what? They're really playing with fire. And this isn't a mere stove blows up in your face kind of fire. This is a fire that is under heavy winds and dry brush that could easily spread and burn the whole forest down. You might be spared now, but this has a ripple effect that will last for years and decades even.
Fox News and Trump think that the virus is a game? It is not something to fuck with. By any stretch of the imagination. When they egg on their supporters to screw up the social distancing and anti-COVID measures that we've already been through? They just lit the match and that will cause a fast burning fire that won't go out. Which means that all the progress we've made so far will be completely undone and for nothing.
When their supporters block hospitals, think of that like blocking the entrance to a fire station. You really don't want to do that. And if you get this wretched virus, you won't be able to go back to your house or go fishing. It will have already burned. This is some seriously dangerous territory they are treading. Believe me, leaving your house not knowing if you'll ever come back to it is one of the worst possible feelings in the entire world.
And if the whole block goes up in flames or we all get the virus? Guess what? We won't be able to go back to "normal" for a very long time. Either you put up with the lockdowns or shut the fuck up. I don't like these lockdowns or social distancing one bit. Nobody does. But the more we abide by them the sooner we go back to normal. Let's think about the consequences of those actions. So either put it out now while you still can, or watch it burn uncontrollably with no hope of ever extinguishing the fire.

If anybody finds it, I would doubt its potency or suspect it being counterfeit.
And on top of that, I believe Fox and the White House are performing a genocide of our African American citizens.
Crimes that may or may not put them all on trial. If they win with all their right wing judges, there is no safe place for a liberal in America. Their vilification of their perceived enemies will be the end of us.

(111,094 posts)They are betting that people will not die if they open up the economy right now. They do not believe they can win the next election unless they get the economy going again ...and quickly.
In fact, most of the jobs should be ready to pick back up if they would do the testing. But they are gambling that everything will be OK without any testing. They are standing people up in front of the bullets of this virus. They are betting people's lives that they can win.

(210 posts)the virus just "wash over" America?
Having his cult congregate unprotected in areas, without PPE or thought of social distancing is a great way to get it started. He could literally be using his followers to spread the virus to try to build herd immunity. The fact that he's been told that it wouldn't be effective and may kill 2-3% of the population wouldn't be a hang up to him; he's got the thought in his mind.

And it only stays at 2-3% if the healthcare system doesn't get overwhelmed. The simple math is that if 500,000 people need ventilators at the same time and there are only 100,000 ventilators then 400,000 people are shit out of luck and are going to die (along with probably 80,000 of the people who did get ventilators because only 20% of people put on them come off them alive).
Start losing health care workers to quarantine or death because of exposure and you end up with cascading failure.
