They are unable to talk Trump out of restarting the economy. His plan is going to kill more Americans and will result in a second wave of the virus thereby making it necessary to extend the time we will have to self isolate. It will cause another run on stores with people stocking up on supplies. This time worse than the original run on the stores.
We are doomed.

(3,888 posts)who doesn't think we are ready to reopen.
After spending all week saying he was going to do this and that and had all the authority, he came out today and said what we already know - the governors have to do it all with no help from him. He's completely useless.

(25,285 posts)they will obey him like lemmings. Then you will see second spikes in their States cases and deaths. He'll criticize the Dem Governors and cause dissension in the Dem States by using his deplorables to protest the Dem Governor's orders to stay at home.
I live in Illinois in the Chicago Area. Already the Gov of Indiana is talking about easing things up on this virus in early May.
Currently we are having to deal with guns that are more easily purchased in Indiana and brought over the border into Illinois. A lot of those shootings you hear about in Illinois are caused by these guns brought into Illinois that were purchased in Indiana.
Now we'll have to deal with people from Indiana coming into Illinois and the Chicago area that might be carriers of the virus - because they are not self isolating at home and their Governor opened up Indiana. No more self distancing. No more self isolating in their Indiana homes.
We'll be following the self isolation and distancing in Illinois and they will come in and contaminate us and cause a second wave of problems for us in Illinois as well.
If Indiana does ease up - I hope we put barricades up at the Illinois/Indiana border to prevent that from happening.
Trump doing this will create all kinds of confusion all across this country.
He'll sit back and watch all this going on across the country - just thinking of ways he can blame everybody else for the worsening of this crisis.

(2,227 posts)(because he thinks he will successfully spin it, to win it) so he punts it to the governors who aren't equipped to do it all, knowing THEY will be who HE blames when their meager efforts fail. And Americans are so easily deceived.
He CAN'T allow social distancing and an economic shutdown to work. If it does, the dems win. So he is doing everything he can to prolong it.
People are dying? Meh.
He also WANTS a pandemic, so he can maneuver to somehow cancel the election, instituting martial law if necessary. Are we THAT confident that the police and military would NOT take up arms against American citizens? I'm not.
And DON'T say he can't. He has already done a hundred things that we said he couldn't do. He will have the full cooperation of every state legislature that is controlled by republicans. Remember, the SC has said elections are strictly a state's responsibility, and they can do as they please.
It is in the constitution? And how many times has he wiped his ass with the constitution?
You would think that the federal government couldn't sweep in and STEAL PPE equipment that the states had located and bought, but he is doing it. Is it Michigan that located and bought some equipment abroad, and is having it flown in secretly JUST SO THE FEDS CAN'T STEAL IT?
NOTHING is beyond him and them. We need to wrap our brains around that and be ready.
The only silver lining I see is that the states may be able to pull it off, themselves... IN SPITE of everything he is doing to make them fail. IF they do, he is toast. Except for that pesky military/police situation. Again, NOTHING is beyond him, or them.

(5,240 posts)I am afraid that people won't learn their lessons unless people go back to work and a second wave hits hard. Unless something happens to them they won't believe it's bad.
I know it's not logical, and it is stupid, but people are generally illogical and stupid.
I've thought the same thing lately.

(2,227 posts)And many of their governors are STILL refusing to tell people to stay home. Wait until it starts really spreading outside the retirement homes and assisted living facilities, into the general population, where they HAVE to include them in the dead counts. They have already been infected, they just don't know it yet.
It is so sad to have a situation where the states that did what needed to be done, and are flattening the curve, which HAS to happen before the infections start to lessen, ONLY to have a second wave come through because his cultists refuse to make the necessary sacrifices because they HATE THE LIBTARDS.

(23,364 posts)Fauci? Meh. Hes got an agenda...I hope he cares more for America than he does his job. Regardless...its up to the states to decide when to open up. The problem now is the seeds have been sown with deplorables that the Dems want to shut the country down indefinitely. Its crazy of course...but what hasnt been crazy since 11.8.16?

(2,042 posts)Assuming theyre telling him to hold off Im not going to hold them responsible for Dump not taking their advice.

(25,285 posts)when he doesn't listen and endangers the lives of Americans - it's time for them to resign their jobs - leave his committee and talk the truth to the American People. I really believe that Fauci would be given a forum to do just that. I'm not so sure about Brix. She seems deathly afraid of Trump.
I'm disappointed in Fauci - when he gets up at that podium at Trump's daily lie fests and tries to find the words to make it sound like he is going along with Trump's dangerous plan. Fauci knows better and he's selling out. I trust Fauci - but he's compromising his principles.
Fauci needs to grow some balls and quit on Trump. Biden should hire him the moment that happens and put Fauci on his team.
meadowlander
(4,411 posts)and then we'll be in even more trouble.
Dr Fauci has spent 50 years of his life preparing to help guide us through the current crisis. He shouldn't be forced to quit because the President is a moron.
He should keep doing what he's doing - getting the truth out there however he can and not getting sucked into the clown show.
global1
(25,285 posts)If Fauci quits or is fired - he won't be silenced. He will be given a forum to still speak the truth. He won't have to bite his tongue because he shares the stage with Trump and Trump might throw a fit.
Like I suggested - Biden could hire him for his team. Any news organization that's worth its salt would hire him and give him a forum in an instant.

(7,638 posts)Since he can not influence Trump, what goes is there for him to walk on eggshells and give the appearance he is sanctioning Trump's nonsense. He would be better off consulting for governors or indeed put on a transition team by Joe Biden.

(41,184 posts)talks on MSM, it will be discredited as sour grapes and 'fake news.' If he joins Biden's team and speaks as some suggest, it will be the same plus he's just a 'shill for the libs'

(25,285 posts)you could be the safest driver on the road. Follow all the rules. And you could be taken out by some unsafe driver that doesn't care about themselves or others.
The same thing goes for this virus situation. You can do everything that is recommended and more - but someone that believes that this self distancing and isolation is not necessary and doesn't protect themselves - could take you down.
Remember there are people out there that still think this is a hoax or just the flu. They throw caution to the wind and their lack of caution can kill you. All it takes is that one trip to the grocery store or the pharmacy by you where someone is walking around with the virus - and you become a statistic.
Nothing in life is guaranteed, including life itself.
But I can dang well mitigate the possibility of contracting it.
I trust our governor to make the right decisions.
Gov Whitmer is a smart cookie.
global1
(25,285 posts)Whitmer is a smart cookie and knows the right thing to do. But what happens when the Indiana Governor eases up on the restrictions and lets the people of Indiana run free? People from Indiana could travel to Michigan and wreck havoc on all the good work that Whitmer has accomplished in Michigan.
Trump had second thoughts about his authority to do whatever he wants as president. He realized that if he does take that authority - he gets the responsibility of the results. He doesn't want that. Someone enlightened him to leave the decisions to the Governors of the States. If anything goes south - he has them to blame.
The Governors and the American People (You and I) are being set up.

Folks don't seem to get this. Having people over while saying "We're doing social distancing." "But they're family!" Yeah. And each time you bring more people into your space you increase your risk.

(23,218 posts)Anderson and Sanjay repeated asked her the same question many times, worded differently and she never gave an answer. Sanjay just had this look on his face the entire time, like wtf?
As for Fauci, I've lost all respect for him. He sounds like a sissy when he's with trump. Speak up man, people are dying!

(8,419 posts)Simple question on testing availability and how are the states going to pay and coordinate. Never an answer, but Anderson decided to praise her for her help at the end. She should have been told to answer the damn question. They screwed up and rather than owning it are pushing the problem off on the States. That is anything but leadership.

(20,878 posts)I had respect for Fauci at one time.
However, after his "performance" today, I have no respect for him any longer.
He has become another tRump shill IMO, and a dangerous one at that.
People have learned to trust Fauci. Now he cannot be trusted.
He said the USA would not re-open until there were no more COVID-19 cases. Period.
Oh how look at how he has suddenly changed!
How can he even look at himself in the mirror? What a sell-out!

(23,218 posts)Now he's confusing people who "did" believe him at one time.
My mother called me and asked, why does Fauci say one thing when he's being interviewed on his own in regard to the seriousness of this situation but when alongside trump, acts like a pandemic is no big deal?
He should step down as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he makes me sick.
