First: Here's the link to the IRS Get My Payment page: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment
Second: Over the space of three days, it kept rejecting my entries, saying my information didn't comply, and shutting me down after a few tries. Then I had to wait a day before I could try again. Here's what I found out:
A. It wants your social security number. No dashes, just the numbers.
B. Date of Birth- It shows the MM/DD/YYYY format; that should be easy enough. Or, you can use the calendar next to the field.
C. Street address: This is where I had trouble. I've lived at the same address since 1992. I know where I live. I tried to follow the guidelines as specified in the ? tab, but no attempt to follow their guidelines gave them what they required. I kept getting an error message that said the information I entered does not match their information.
Finally, I had to pull up my 2019 tax form, look at how my street address is printed there, and type it in that way. In their guidelines, they show ST with no period. On my tax form, it's written out as Street, and I used # and my apartment number. Also, I live in a number street. On the guidelines, it just shows the Street using the number, no st or th. On my 2019 tax form, I used the th after my street number. So I manually typed all this, as XXth Street and it finally accepted it. The rule is: Follow your latest tax filing, and type in your street address exactly as it's shown on your tax form.
I had to fill in gross income and money refunded, or money owed, for my last tax filing. So have that information available.
For direct deposit, they wanted my routing number, so I had to boot up my checking account and find it. They won't let you paste it; you have to type it numerically.
So, I finally got it done. If I hadn't gone through the ordeal, I somehow get the impression they wouldn't have come looking for me. A word to the wise - If you haven't received your stimulus check, you may need to go to this page and fill it out.
EDITED TO ADD: The link above is for people who filed taxes. Non-filers, or people who want to go the the initial starting page, can start here: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments

(23,295 posts)All of my employees have. When I went to the site, and did what you did, it says Payment Status Not Available. Maybe its my address? Ill check my tax forms tomorrow and see if it is written differently. I live on a Street. 000 Example Street. No apartment number. This is frustrating.

(13,776 posts)Thanks to the OP, he knew they had to match exactly... still the system couldnt find him.
At least we knew about the pickiness of the address field so we dont have to rule that out as the reason any more. Thanks very much, OP!

(17,081 posts)This year was an anomaly, as I owed money, which doesn't happen often.
The fact that they wanted my routing number and account number, along with the rest of it, just makes me wonder.
On the page, they said that I was entitled to a check, but there was some information missing. If I didn't provide the "missing information," would I have received my payment? Due to their information missing message, I was thinking I wouldn't get the payment unless I provided it. But they didn't specifically state that.
I can't really give you a reliable answer to that.
Also, 2019 is the first year I started receiving Social Security, which is getting direct deposited with no problem.

(17,081 posts)I figured I was as legitimate as can be. I have no idea why they told me that "information was missing" to process my payment.

(2,410 posts)They needed my 2018 AGI, apparently, even though they already had my 2018 taxes!

(5,721 posts)I live in an apartment. The formatting example suggests the apt. number 123 should be entered as "#123" after the street, but the apt. number appears on my return without the hash symbol. so I've tried the following:
456 Pseudonym Drive #123
456 Pseudonym Drive 123
456 Pseudonym Drive (no apt. number)
No luck. However, I only filed a week ago (April 10th). It took the state tax board only five days to post my refund after I filed electronically, but they've always been faster than the Feds. Am I just checking too early, or is there a trick to the address format?
EDIT: Three days after I filed, IRS did process my tax payment via direct debit, so there's that.

(17,081 posts)I dunno. It shouldn't be such a damn ordeal to write your own address down.

(5,721 posts)I'm focused on the apartment number because it's in a separate box. Everything else is simple enough and entered identically to the form.
Beginning to wish I'd just waited on the mail-in check.

(52,152 posts)this is absolutely infuriating. If I have to have that asshole's name on my check I am going to lose it. Their website is utterly, totally, and completely worthless and of course not one story about how awful this website is.
