HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 1 in 3 workers in Hawaii has lost a job as a result of the COVID-19 shutdown, new figures from the state Labor Department show.
And a new state-by-state analysis shows Hawaii is among the states hardest hit by shutdown orders.
Thats because many of those laid off are connected to the tourism industry, which has been at a standstill since stay-at-home orders went into effect followed by travel-related quarantines.
In February, Hawaiis workforce was about 651,000 strong, and unemployment was just 2.7% ― far below the national average.
From March 1 to Thursday, the number of unemployment claims filed in the islands stands at a staggering 244,330. That puts the state at more than 37% unemployment.

I thought I would say that.

of March 26th. The hotels and restaurants are closed except for takeout.. the streets are mostly deserted. Now there's no inter-island air travel except for essential traveling. The Governor and Mayors are doing what is the best thing to contain the CV.
In March all the rental cars were driven to this plowed cane field where I used to run because there wasn't enough room on the rental lots when nobody was renting them.
The last I heard we stay in shelter until April 30th.. we'll see what happens next.
Best of Luck to those who need unemployment insurance and to us all!
