(10,053 posts)I often think about how different things would have been if those GOP senators just voted to convict and remove him in February.

(2,678 posts)we knew the Senate Republicans would never vote to convict. Hell, they didnt want witnesses because then theyd HAVE to convict.. Then again maybe they wouldnt have, even then...

(10,053 posts)They knew that a horrible pandemic was heading our way, they knew their guy was incompetent to save us, they knew we (and some of them) were going to die - and yet they knew they were going to vote to let it all happen.

(8,804 posts)Biden won't accomplish much, if anything.
Mitch and his cabal successfully obstructed Obama from getting anything done for years.
And despite Obama, Mitch kept ramming thru all kinds of Republican Dream List things, including a ton of Federalist Judges across the entire U.S.

(15,642 posts)everything tRump. They are all evangelicals -- brainwashed toadies. I'm beginning to feel the sentiment expressed in your graphic toward them even. My other siblings think I should ignore my "political" concerns for the sake of family unity. Oddly, that just angers me more. Horrible times we are living in -- but I am optimistic we will prevail in the end. As for my family, I'm not so optimistic.

(239 posts)While I don't have Trump humpers in my family anymore---my father was one but he passed away last year at the ripe old age of 88--I do have coworkers who think the sun shines out Trump's ass. Like with your family they are all Evangelical Christians. I don't get how people who supposedly follow Jesus can so adore a monster like Trump, but they do. I have tried to reason with them but to no avail. They are all brain-washed by their pastors and by Fox News. To them, Trump is God's anointed who will lead this country "back to its Godly roots". It's insane but they believe it. Nothing will change their minds. Facts be damned! I avoid them whenever possible because I get so angry at their willful denial of reality. And don't get me started on their condescending "I will pray for you" reply when I point out any of the horrible things Trump has done or is doing. I am truly beginning to hate them.

(70,070 posts)i have a part time open relationship w one. yes, parse that.
it's been a trip, but he is basically a disaffected hippie who fell down the info rabbit hole. he believes in medical woo too. what he fell for is the idea that it's all rigged.
some of these people are reachable, and he and i have learned to cross swords w rules. i will not be trolled. he still tries, but i just say bye. usually by the time he gets his shoes on and finds his car keys, he has cooled off, and we can talk. then we find things we can agree on. i raised 5 kids. i can do simple.
it's funny that he has 2 fb accounts, one of which spends a lot of time in jail. so he uses an older sock, from before he lost his mind. i can have a halfway sane convo on that page. his actual page? blocked.
he is smart, but gullible. he doesnt have a lot of math and science background. he has sane old hippie friends. i try to never miss and opportunity to tear him up on his anti-science bullshit. he is a little better at math, but i give an occasional tedtalk about the highschool maths. and i never pass up an opportunity to wager on future numbers that i know he is not grasping.
his big contribution to keeping this sane, such that it is, is that he knows how to drop it. and apologize.
i feel ya. i had to step back from my brother, who is a lefty, but a bully. fam thinks i am being touchy and grinding old grudges, but i was always target #1, and apparently still am.

(694 posts)that Biden, and democrats in the house and senate, will let the republicans skate just like Bush. Torture and an illegal war, no problem. Don't do it again, okay. Criminally underperform your duties during a pandemic, we better not see that again, now move along.

(13,616 posts)after W. Bush nearly wrecked the country, and got us into wars we still die in. I know that many critics of Obama act as a fifth columnof Putin right and Jill stein left, but if there is one critique of Obama, it is that he did try the whole "malice toward none, charity for all" approach" to "unify the country." I did not choose that metaphor by accident, after all, Obama compared himself to his fellow Illinois president, but also we all know that Lincoln got paid for his efforts by assassination, after which a confederate general named Nathan Forrest from the KKK, clawed back every concession, and pretty much continued right where Lee left off. Indeed, it is no accident that many GOP are actively engaging in the whitewash of the C.S.A.
in other words, let''s call this what it is, a COLD CIVIL WAR with agents actively wanting to make it a hot one.

(12,541 posts)should have ended 100 years ago. The slave states keep their Congressmen and Senators for life. This gives them seniority that they parlay into committee chairs that determine the legislation to be brought up for debate and passage, and in many cases funnelling money to the Confederacy.
It's time to partition the country and let the Repubics have the slave states.
Obama's big mistakes were letting corrupt bankers loot the Treasury with impunity and letting war profiteers like Halliburton and Blackwater escape prosecution. Every time he reached across the aisle he pulled back a bloody stump. To say what they did happened in the past and we have to look forward is naive. All crimes happen in the past.

(12,541 posts)is the antitheses of the values embraced by the Founding Fathers who used The Enlightenment as the road map to writing our Constitution that Trump and his Brownshirts use for toilet paper excepting the Second Amendment which they managed to pervert with the help of the Mediocre (formerly Supreme) Court.
