The news media, Democratic leaders and the sane people of American have been, are being much too nice to the evil people who are killing us. Just my opinion.
I am not saying we should become violent and hurt people physically. I am saying we should be much more vicious in how we respond verbally, How reporters ask questions, how politicians respond to Trumps bullshit, protesting, etc.

(17,000 posts)acted accordingly. I had two grown men walk away and sulk in separate corners. They were spewing right wing bullshit and got their fee fees hurt when I blasted them with facts. One actually said it wasnt his fault that I had more time to be better informed. WTF does that even mean? The whole everyoness opinion is important is utter bullshit. Hate filled ignorant bs isnt an opinion, its bs and should be fact checked hard and fast. If the person spewing it is shamed in the process, good. Thats the way its supposed to work.

(2,224 posts)They have too much ego to stop talking crap. I feel the only way to get them to back down is through actions like having their leaders removed from power.

(11,730 posts)My wife and I have shut down right wingers talking crap on Facebook many a time. Usually they will rant, then we come in and blast them out. Sometimes they delete their posts and stop answering. Sometimes they complain to the "mutual Facebook friend" threatening to unfriend them, etc...
Are we changing minds? Likely not, but that is not the point. My strategy is to prevent them from contaminating discussions with their bullshit. Sparing other people from having to take in their stupidity.
You are however, correct. The focus should be top down. Get the leaders out of their and the followers slink back into the dark crevices.

(12,712 posts)This quote still holds true. In fact, we are seeing the outcome of it right now and it is most prevalent. You can't have a genuine democracy without citizens who can understand what it is and are willing to abide by its tenets.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

(16,616 posts)and with the praise I heaped on them, I ended by expressing exactly this sentiment.
I really am sick of it too. A legal analyst I really like made a "joke" this morning about Trump's liberate tweets and I strenuously objected. This is not normal. Full stop.

(11,730 posts)Right wingers always cry, "What about civility?" whenever they are confronted with anything other than kid gloves. They say that we are "unfair" and say, "What happened to the tolerant left?" Liberals and progressives ARE tolerant of different ideas. We accept many differing life experiences, identities, and ideologies that differ from ones we may hold. What we do not tolerate, are ideologies, attitudes, and behaviors that put people at grave risk of harm. WE DON"T HAVE TO TOLERATE THAT.
We should not tolerate that. The view that money is more important that human life should not be tolerated or respected. That is not a valid point of view. We can argue how much is too much, or what the goals and outcomes of policies are, but that is not what the right wingers are doing.
I do get frustrated at how the media and politicians from our side will often act like a disgusting and deranged viewpoint, like when the lieutenant governor of Texas was talking about giving people the choice to die for the economy (I mean, I know it was Tucker Carlson). It should be condemned with the strongest language and be called what it is. A callous disregard for people.

Go ahead, threaten me and mine. I have my own little gun (22 caliber) to protect me and mine against idiots like you, when you try and break into my home and steal from me, and mine.
Especially now, when instead of working to provide for your families and loved ones, you are out there prancing around with your toy guns, protesting literally nothing, who knows how much time you've wasted.
No one coming to take your guns. Why in the hell do I want your stupid guns? They're probably contaminated w/ who knows what germs, especially after seeing all of you on those steps. Yikes.
No one is telling you a damn thing other then we all should protect ourselves and loved ones, by self-isolating ourselves. If you got a problem w/ that, then peacefully file something w/ the courts, don't go running around w/ your guns first thing.
What excuse will you give when members of your following, or your family members start getting sick?
Excuses will be far too late by then.

(35,433 posts)It's custom to see Republicans as rational, normal people with a different opinion on policy. It's custom to respect different arguments even when we disagree with them. But, that custom is based on the other side being honest and rational.
The Republican party, esp. in the Trump era, has abandoned rational thinking and honesty. They don't believe in government or governing. Yet, they still run for office and seek power. Once in office, they show their disinterest in governing by not listening to career experts at almost every agency, intelligence, anti-terrorism, the DOJ, the FBI, career foreign civil servants, the State dept., NIH, the CDD, and on and on and on.
Republicans rely on custom to avoid being categorized a fringe political group which should not be allowed in the mainstream discourse.

(27 posts)The rule that I was taught and have lived by my whole life has been "Treat other people the way you want to be treated". I have tried very hard to live by that rule. However, it has finally been pounded into my head that not everybody believes that way. Destroyers see a person who is kind, generous and forgiving as a sheep to be sheared and they do so.
I still believe that I want to treat people kindly, but there are some who are simply too dangerous to treat nicely-they will destroy you every time. The time has come not for revenge, but for justice. We can no longer let them get away with "It's just a joke, snowflake". Frankly, yes, the reporters and journalists need to step up and follow up with tough responses. When Trump tries to talk over them or shut them up, they need to respond in the same way. If it means being vicious, then vicious it is.
