General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis week my shopping outings showed that about half the people I saw (and me) were masked.
The other half didn't bother. Everybody pretty much tried to maintain distance but in WalMart most aisles are marked one way to direct traffic and minimize contact but again at least half the people shopping were blowing that off so what good does it do? It's obvious that some of us are taking this more seriously than others...
I saw an exhibition of temper this week in WalMart by one shopper at the register where I was in line.
She was trying to buy 2 cases of bottled water and I guess the clerk said something about only one per customer and she raised up the push end of her cart then slammed it down. A supervisor was
right there and told the clerk it was ok but I'll be honest, my nerves are getting frayed too...
Tell us your experience, inquiring minds want to know!

Wearing a mask shows you're conscientious.. you care about not infecting others and it's a reminder that there's a deadly silent, invisible virus out there.

(26,260 posts)It was the time set aside for 'vulnerable' shoppers and there weren't a whole lot of people, which surprised me. By the time I left, more people were arriving and pretty much all of them were wearing masks, too. Everyone I encountered looked to be happy to be out of the house and the general mood atmosphere was really good.
An employee is stationed at the door and they sanitize the carts when they are returned. They have temporarily ceased the need to pay a quarter to access a cart. The aisles are marked one-way and there are limits of 2 on quite a few things. They have installed shields at the check outs. And they are allowing only a limited number of shoppers into the store, at any one time.

(13,569 posts)1. My delivery was cancelled via text at 11:15 on a Saturday night. (the window was for 11 -- the only one I could get with a week's wait). The $79 was deducted from my Paypal Mastercard debit card. Two weeks ago. Can't get any resolution on that from Paypal, or Insta-Cart, or Kroger.
2. Another delivery, due this Saturday, was cancelled. That's another $100+ tied up. This time on my direct deposit Mastercard debit card.
Total of $170 grocery money in limbo.
I won't EVER use Insta-Cart again.

(32,626 posts)We went to the grocery store, all masked and gloved up. We fit right in. My husband has a fit when people came up the aisle we were walking down. Then I have a fit at him, for being nasty. Then I raced through the supermarket trying to lose him. Then we get to the checkout and still in my hurried state I forgot somethings in the cart. That led to another dosey-do, and finally we got out of there. We fought all the way home, and managed to get over it shortly after. The end.

(32,626 posts)if you don't look down you don't see them. I made sure I went the wrong way down one aisle...just to show him! Yupper...a little tense.

(2,186 posts)Because I would think of it when I was at the wrong end of the aisle and think to myself "I'll get it on the way back when I pass the other end of the aisles." And then I'd forget. I also forgot Kombucha, my go-to any-sign-of-illness drink. I'll be more focused next time.

(1,967 posts)That's about what I saw at the grocery store this afternoon. Very little social distancing also. Groups of teenagers with no masks walking shoulder to shoulder along the street, groups of adults no masks talking in the store.
I am convinced this coronavirus epidemic will go on for two years or longer even if a cure and a vaccine can be developed sooner. Most people think it can't happen to them and won't bother to get a vaccine.

(1,753 posts)the item. I popped open the trunk for him, didn't even have to get out of the car. What surprised me was that everyone was wearing a mask! And ... most shoppers I saw were men. Good men, I might add.

(8,703 posts)Its working out good. There are usually 2 days between placing my order and pickup - so I can keep adding stuff up to 8 hrs before pickup. I actually like shopping online and it sure is safer. Why go in and take a chance when you don t need to?

(5,164 posts)I have not been out to shop all since March 20th or at all except for mail and a couple of walks etc. Almost no one was wearing masks walking except me, except for some construction workers, but it scared people away from me mostly. Lots of people talking to each other outside but about 3-6; ft apart except for obvious families etc. I have covid now too. I managed to finally schedule a second instacart delivery from bjs and shoprite. On the first one, the shoprite delivery was missing half the chicken I ordered and they still charged me for all of it. I have contacted them twice via their website, there is no phone service currently and had no response. I dont know if I can do stop partial payment on a cc. There is no way to contact the shopper. The last orders took a week, these ones say they will be done sooner.
Whole foods delivery via Amazon has been useless. I cant ever get any delivery window with them . I clicked on something to sign up for it thinking it would help and I now I cant even put things in the cart or check for deliveries. There is a message that says you have signed up, we will let you know when you can shop. Which apparently will be never.

(10,885 posts)NY, MD, NJ, as well as many cities now require them full time.
RI, where I live, currently requires workers and store personnel to wear them, but not yet mandatory - just highly recommended - for the general public. I'd expect that to change soon.
