Btw, remember, Richard Burr is chair of the senate intelligence committee and in the past was heavily involved in writing and passing legislation to STOP future epidemic disease and fast-track development of vaccines and medications.

They knew from the beginning, and now that is going to turn out to be last November. No surprise. COVID-19 was raging in Wuhan in December and China finally forced to admit it to the WHO on December 31. So for sure McConnell and other Republican senators on the intelligence committee knew it in December.

And from November or December until today, they have been blocking all attempts by Democratic legislators to begin containment, and then blocking mitigation efforts.

McConnell's latest was to adjourn the senate and send Republican senators home. He's campaigning in KY while the latest huge bill passed by house Democrats, to order and fund testing, gathers dust on his desk.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats, in DC and at work, passed their own bill 3 days ago, which similarly would provide "$30 billion in emergency funding to increase testing and build out a structure for administering tests across the country."

Time for people to stop imagining this is all Trump. If he dropped dead tomorrow the real, entrenched villains would still be in power.

It's congress that legislates and funds action against epidemic disease. Presidents administer congress's mandates. Yes, Trump dismantled the National Security Council's pandemic preparedness unit, but congress could have legislated reestablishment. Congress itself had devastated other organizations by big cuts to funding, but could have restored it. Instead, the senate Republicans blocked all attempts to identify and contain this disease, and then once it was killing us blocked all attempts to mitigate the deaths.

Dr. Birx just said lower death rates in Asian countries initially mislead many into underestimating its virulent spread, into thinking it was mainly just taking out a bunch of old and sick, and it may be that the Republican leadership underestimated how badly the economy would be hurt if they just let COVID cut those on SocSec, Medicare, Medicaid.

In any case, though we don't know their motives, that they forced inaction isn't theory but incontrovertible, a matter of congressional record. And we have a bunch of video of congressional and state Republicans assuring the nation it was all Democratic lies as the virus spread invisibly out of control.

Actually, whether true or not, it will be fodder for the campaign.

The NCMI insists that they never issued the warning and report alluded to by the Times of Israel. But there are other intel organs within the administration that may have done so. Or the NCMI may have issued a report containing the information alluded to but also containing much other information thus giving them the out to say they did not issue a report about the virus (because the report may have been primarily about many other issues and the intel on the virus just an incidental add on.)

This is all spy novel stuff and we, the people of this once great Republic, will never know the truth because of security classification restrictions.

Regardless, though, this will be fodder for the campaign.
