I am lucky and am in a good spot to weather this.

I do worry about others though.

I don’t know how we could make it work, but if there is a need maybe a go fund me for DU members would be helpful. Those that could donate could and others in need could let it be known and transfer of funds could occur....

1. having money for food is one thing, the bigger issue will be if food is even available

the inflation in food prices is very apparent and now growing shortages in meat and soon in fresh produce which then hits ALL food products in months to come.

with NO national plan, the situation has a great chance of spinning into full scale riots and chaos

9. migrant work force not allowed to come in to the US for harvesting is happening right now

and is being overlooked. Immediately NOW we are seeing a run on meat. Bottom line, not every one who gets the virus even gets sick and those that do 80% get over it. SO the best outcome is immunity testing so those people have the best chance to return to work without too much fear. Unfortunately we need national leadership and we are not going to have that until Jan 2021.

We are in for many more shocks and food will be one of them. I;m putting in a garden to grow squash, potatoes as well as some tomatoes, beans and peas to eat on when they start producing, I have 3 trays of greens planted that I should start eating off in 4 weeks, We have to go "old school" now.

beans, lettuce, cucumbers tomatoes, egg plant, spinach - things that grow easily.

They set up mobile food distribution sites and have done so recently in my town. They turn $1.00 into 10 meals.

3. I've hardly felt any personal hardships at all

It shakes me to my soul to see the hardships others are facing and I pray for them everyday.
It makes me grateful to realize how blessed I am.
I'll be turning 70 in June and have seen a whole lot of shit come down in my lifetime, as will everyone.
The one thing I've realized recently is if we think we've seen it all, we haven't.
We never will.

4. Noble and beautiful idea.

No clue on how to make it work, however. We would need a panel of some kind to make decisions about need and then about how to fairly distribute available funds to DU members in need. It sounds like a pretty complicated program to get up and running.

18. I agree with a very noble idea, unfortunately I'm not sure we could get

behind it. DU'ers hearts are too kind and we've seen through the years, too many times to count, this community get taken in by some really good professional grifters. We've watched this community get ripped apart by a few bad actors, Torch and Yoshi come to mind, top of the list.

How could real need be separated out? We just don't see how it could possibly be viable. It would have to be a very special group/panel of respected members willing to devote time and energy to it. We can think of only a handful we could or would trust to make those decisions for all of us.

The only thing I have to do now is make an occasional quick trip to the store for perishables like fresh milk and eggs.

10. That's why trumps "ignorance" claims are so incredible. A covid-19 was sweeping through

China, and metastasizing into other countries. Hell I saw it. In February I made frequent trips to the store, stocking up on cat food, powdered milk, canned & dry beans, rice, toilet paper, disinfectants. And I was able to take advantage of sales to buy multiples - I love when canned beans are .88 cents a can - garbanzos, black, great northerns.

I know there are people out there in need of food. I worry about those who don't have vehicles to pick up food at the food drives. Those that have to count their pennies to buy a small bag of potatoes.

My grandmother would make sandwiches for the men out looking for work during the depression.

I have continued to pay the people who help to make my like easier: hair dresser, house keeper. And tip extra to people who deliver.

11. I'm doing well.

The card-reader at my grocery store has a prompt when you're paying the bill, asking if you want to contribute to hunger-relief efforts. I always donate $5.

It's not feeding the five thousand with five loaves and two fish, but it helps.

Buying food for the two of us, for three weeks cost $200.00. In my poor country, with high unemployment during normal times, many people with three or four kids can't raise $20.00 today. I felt guilty as we were checking out.

to a local homeless shelter and a local food bank. Half to each. I know I'm lucky to be secure enough to do that.

14. I remember when DU used to do charity cause fundraisers.

I understand why that may have stopped, sometimes people ask for help who really don't need it, it becomes emotionally taxing to figure out whether a person really needs help or doesn't need it but is trying to take advantage. Somehow, if there is a way to figure out the logistical problems, it seems to me, that setting up a fund for DU members that need food and housing help in these times would be helpful.
