General Discussion

We are angry and readily display the anger. It is time for us to band
together, to organize and make the change we seek.
For example: letter writing campaign; Virtual protests against (name your poison); boycotts; --these are off the top of my head.
We have talented, intelligent, motivated people. It is time to unite and make a real difference.

(151,540 posts)They are thinly scattered across the country. DU is not a source of serious local activism. How many DUers do you know from your own city or town? Think about it.
We are a small group.

(10,384 posts)I always think of Margaret Mead's quote at moments like these:
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

(14,162 posts)but I assumed that was part of what DU was about. If we're not doing that then shame on us. I know of a couple DUers who have put out some strong appeals for action on issues. It takes someone to make specific appeals, people to read, people to agree, then people to act. So what do you have in mind?

(151,540 posts)I don't think so. We're smart enough not to do that, I hope.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
