Hypothetical

COVID-19 spirals out of control.

Elections postponed for safety.

January 20, 2021: Trump’s term ends. Pence’s term ends. Pelosi’s term ends.

Sure, at that point trump would declare himself president for life or king or whatever. But constitutionally everyone who might have been elected is no longer in office. There’s nothing in the constitution about this set of events. Talk about a constitutional crisis. Do we go to presidential succession? Does the military step in to protect and defend the constitution? Does SCOTUS declare him king?

IF that all happened, the Senate President pro tempore (who would be a Dem) would become POTUS Celerity Apr 2020 #2

I don't see Pelosi postponing it with mail in, on line and drop off options available to us.

The Rethugs lose far more Senate seats than we do, so we would be the Senate majority party. Leahy would the PPT based off tradition, but the Dems might pick another if he is not up to the rigours of the office.
