DEMOCRACY GARDENS, what do you think? Long overdue.

During the first and second world wars of the 20th century, popular 'victory gardens' were grown by citizens in the U.S. and Europe due to wartime restriction of food items and consumer goods. We are now living in difficult times and home gardening can be a way to supplement meals, support ecosystems, participate in a healthy activitiy and develop bonds with neighbors and the community. Gardening as a communal effort also supports democracy which is facing serious challenges in many global areas.

Commonly grown foods to supplement home meals include: tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, parsley and other herbs. For growing space utilize yards, community plots, window boxes, and pots and containers placed on porches and decks. Bon Appetit!

The Victory Garden is a re-created World War II-era garden and features "heirloom" vegetable and flower species available to gardeners through the 1940s. Throughout the war years, millions of victory gardens in all shapes and sizes—from window boxes to community plots—produced abundant food for the folks at home. The plantings in this re-created garden are rotated seasonally.

Leafy greens can be grown in a home garden even in colder months.

My bobcat and I have been creating another 2/3 acre of garden space. I saw this coming in Jan and have been going full bore ever since.

EVERYONE needs a garden. Containers do very well on balconies.

We need to fill the gap.
