Really disgusting. They have over 100 billion in a rainy day fund. Immoral to its core.

A former investment manager alleges in a whistleblower complaint to the Internal Revenue Service that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has amassed about $100 billion in accounts intended for charitable purposes, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by The Washington Post.

(74 posts)I cannot find the Church of later day saints listed on the PDF copy the allocations. Can anyone help me out?
I did however notice on page 40 of the list that Liberty University was awarded 15,205,124 the right wing brainwashing institute that insisted students return to classes in the middle of this pandemic. Not a choice for an award that any sane person would make.

(2,872 posts)This appears to be a list of colleges and universities who are getting stimulus funds. The poster is calling the three campuses of Brigham Young University and possibly LDS Business College (not sure, I didnt do the math) the Mormon Church.
If Notre Dame is there, does that count as the Catholic Church receiving money?

(57,290 posts)There are three campuses. The big one is in Provo, Utah. There is another one in Rexburg, Idaho. There is a third in Hawaii. I knew of the first two, but not the one in Hawaii.
00367000 Brigham Young University $32,272,986 $16,136,493
00160600 Brigham Young University - Hawaii $2,306,881 $1,153,441
00162500 Brigham Young University - Idaho $18,172,623 $9,086,312
The first column is Total Allocation. The second column is Minimum Allocation to be Awarded for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
I don't think I'd agree with the OP that this is giving $54 million to the Mormon Church.
Full disclosure: I am not LDS. I did have a terrific coworker who was a devout member of LDS. He was a wonderful person with whom to work. As a result, I do not have a bad opinion of members of LDS. I like to greet them when I see them on their bicycles.
Welcome to DU.

(10,570 posts)It is ran 100% by the Church (CES or Church Education Systems) and is funded through members tithing. It is an arm of the church and not like other religiously funded universities that are "affiliated" with a faith.

"Church tithing supports BYU, so all Mormons who tithe support the university. Tuition this year is $5,300 for LDS undergraduates and $10,600 for non-LDS students."

(13,916 posts)Large companies with handy lawyers and accountants and friendly banks were able to quickly drain the fund, while individuals and smaller companies had to wait for consumer banks to figure out how to process the loans, and then get that information out to their individual clients.
There should have been a maximum set for the ppp loans.
