I live under the flight path of an Air Force base and have since the early 1980s. We are used to the typical ebb and flow-during the two Iraq episodes it was a continuous stream of cargo planes and fighters, along with bombers and tactical aircraft. Generally however its fairly quiet with sporadic slight surges.
But in the last few weeks the volume has markedly increased with lots of fighters all day, punctuated by a couple of C-5 Galaxies here and there.
Many people wonder whats going on...or not.

(62,444 posts)How would you know that the weekday volume had "markedly increased"?
Prior to the last few weeks, were you working part time, and spending a lot of your weekdays at home?

(62,444 posts)You don't seem to have understood the point of my comment.
BEFORE covid-19, how many weekdays were you typically spending at home?
SINCE covid-19 are you spending more weekdays at home?
Obviously your schedule has changed. That would seem to be the most important variable here.
You weren't spending all week at home before, and now you believe that there is some unusual amount of air traffic at Willow Grove because you are home more often to see it.
Now there are, and certainly have been, these bullshit memes on social media with stock footage of tanks on trains and other nonsense, include a picture of a Drexel ROTC exercise in Philly, being used to suggest that there are some large scale military maneuvers going on.
One of the reasons why it is obviously bullshit is that it is not possible to conduct any sort of large scale military mobilization in this country without a lot of people knowing about it because their families are directly impacted. However, people who do not seem to have any connection to military families think that the US armed forces live in some kind of enormous bubble somewhere, so the only way to know if something unusual is going on is through entirely subjective assertions based on changes to the circumstances of the observer, or social media bullshit.

(25,541 posts)And you neednt be so argumentative.
I said it MAY be unimportant AND I am aware that Im home more days but the flights are every day and I am often home during the week.
You know, when you live next to a busy road you get used to the ambient noise and it almost disappears. But when that road is used as a detour for other roads you notice how much more noise than youre used to coming from the road.
Same with this...
And I did say in my subject line that it may be unimportant but Im noting it.

(25,541 posts)These are high and only visible on clear days: Ive seen them take off, they climb at a fantastic speed so they have significant altitude earlY in their flight.

(41,960 posts)Theyve got a lot of open air space to do exercises they dont often get to do. As an old AF brat I recall there being constant monitoring of opportunities when we were at Keesler and they were training pilots.
