Kentucky experienced its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases after protests broke out in the state to lift lockdowns, according to reports.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced there were 273 new cases Sunday, bringing the total to 2,960, news station WCPO reported.
We are still in the midst of this fight against a deadly and highly contagious virus, Beshear said. Lets make sure, as much as were looking at those benchmarks and were looking at the future, that we are acting in the present and we are doing the things that it takes to protect one another.
The Bluegrass State is among the regions that have seen demonstrators take to the streets last week to call for the end of lockdown restrictions.
Around 100 protesters gathered Wednesday on the lawn of the Capitol building in Frankfort during Democrat Beshears coronavirus briefing, shouting Open up Kentucky! and King Beshear, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
The same group returned Friday to the Capitol building, where they were met by barricades, the newspaper reported.
Instead, they circled the area in cars for a drive-through protest of Beshears coronavirus restrictions, the report said.
Its unclear whether the protests had any impact on the surge of deaths reported Sunday in the state.

(12,712 posts)That must mean that it is time for more protests, just to see if it really does have any impact. Let's see how clear it can get.
In a few weeks, well the Famous Last Words file will be filling up and the results will be in.

We're in this for the long haul. Things are going to continue to suck for months and months, thanks to all the MORANS.

(3,131 posts)Thats one of the things that is difficult. People can be infectious for two weeks without symptoms. The protesters may not show up in case counts for another two weeks.
One of the benefits of widespread testing is it lets us see what is happening with infection rates closer to now.

(35,300 posts)Wednesday -- protesters possibly infected.
Friday--two days later, very first symptoms present at the earliest. At the end of the day. Most take 4-7 days to develop. Tests taken during regular hours are highly unlikely to include any protesters that didn't show up at the protests already infected a few days before.
Sunday--tests done on Friday are reported. A few may come in earlier, many will come in later.
In a week to 10 days the earliest deaths from the disease contracted on the day of the protests would occur. Since the death rate is low for those who test positive in the dominant age groups at the protests, there might be one.
It's post-hoc thinking. Don't worry about causality.
"Today I'm sick. I wonder why. Oh ... No ... I knew I was wrong when I forgot to spill a little wine as libation to Bacchus last night at that party. Bacchus--forgive me! I'll sacrifice a goat to your honor. No, wait, you're half goat. Shit. I'll sacrifice a fish. No, now that's silly."
