On Corona Virus and Camels
I've been thinking a lot about camels lately.
Everyone who wants to re-open the economy because we are "over-the-hump" doesn't know very much about camels.
I am reminded that camels come in two varieties. Ours will definitely be a two-humper.
In the early days of this lock-down, there were many stories about the difference between how two cities handled the 1918 Flu Pandemic. Philadelphia went forward with a scheduled parade and had a terrible spike. St. Louis went through a lock-down and kept their deaths low. It was a good story for the time because it addressed the importance of social distancing on the pandemic.
However, I couldn't help but notice the shape of the St. Louis curve. Despite their early success, they relaxed their lockdown and had a second deadly wave. They still did better overall, but their success came with a price.
You can see the curves here.

So, yeah, I expect to be thinking a lot about camels in the near future.
