When Clinton was president, I always looked forward to watching the pressers. When he was gone and Bush stole the election in 2000, I still, out of habit, was watching the pressers, until I realized I didn't like it any more. In fact, I hated it. Bush's people were idiots. They ran my blood pressure up and irritated me. It didn't take me long to realize I needed to fill the void in a more mentally healthy way. I started making that video game time. Once I taught myself the video game, no matter how old and tired it was, was better than subjecting myself to the blood pressure raising Bush pressers, I broke myself from watching them any more.
I did the same thing with "reality TV," once I saw how it ruined MTV and almost all of television. Now, I only watch select TV shows, literally maybe four of them. Soon, I will be down to only the soon to be three The Walking Dead series, Dr. Who, and The 100, but this is The 100's last season. So, it has pretty much stayed at about four to five shows a year since I started making my TV goal to cut our all reality shows and cop shows.
I never did like my family wanting to watch cop shows all the time. I'm so glad to have my own place and control my own TV now. No more cop shows. Our local cops here where I live pass out The Color of Crime, the white supremacist booklet, brag about not arresting anyone short of murder or weed use (and the weed use is to collect money/funds), brag that they think they are too good to have to do paperwork, and brag that they just pick a random black person to arrest, because they think all black people are guilty of something. Meanwhile, these cop shows on TV show that kind of stuff as a shocking moment if a cop is that way. Cop shows on TV are a fantasy world and the other cops put a stop to that cop.
That's not how it really works. Not where I live. I cannot suspend disbelief enough to watch a cop show since I once worked with one and had to put up with his racist recruiting and had the displeasure of meeting other cops just like him because they were his friends. I had to leave that job, because it was beginning to feel like a damn KKK rally to me. I haven't been able to watch a single cop show since. I cannot stomach them.
I had to break myself from watching the pressers after Clinton left and never went back. It's tough to do when you are a political junkie, which is what I used to be. Now, I keep up with politics enough to know what my own party is thinking and planning and doing, but I'm not so invested in it that I watch the WH pressers any more. Even when Obama was in, I didn't start back watching them, but maybe once or twice when my aunt told me my "boyfriend" was on TV interrupting her soap opera. That was always a running joke with her, because I'm gay and I like women. She just knew I liked Obama, politically, and was playing with me. When Trump took over, she didn't call me. She cussed really loudly when he would interrupt her soap operas. I heard cussing every day around noon. I miss her. I miss Obama. My, how far we have fallen and so fast too.
Watching those pressers is too hard of a habit to break. So, it's just habit that people are still watching them, I think. That's my theory. Maybe they will learn to do something nice for themselves instead of torturing themselves or maybe they will decide not to. For me, I'd rather take a nap or play an old, tired video game.
