most states require you to take reasonable job offers. if your old employer says you must come back to work or else, what to do...

(19,558 posts)It may vary by state, but I doubt it.
Right now, we don't have to look for work, but when that changes were SOL.

(11,949 posts)But it is a very specific situation.
I actually worked until I was furloughed yesterday. For cost issues which I get. My healthcare is totally covered and we will be fine. What my team does is critical and most of my employees are still working. But it is going to be impossible to keep things up like they really need to be. And we had extreme protection policies in place. Felt safer there than at the grocery.
We are not going to be able to keep up what we are doing until we have a vaccine if there ever is one. We just have to keep it from going apeshit crazy until we have better treatment and we make the social changes needed to operate with the virus out there.

(11,949 posts)Most of my team is still there but little management.
They are going try to keep things running. I would not be surprised to be called back.
But not complaining at all. Ive made a shit ton more income than my team for the last 25 years. The wife, also furloughed even more. We are fine with over 7 weeks of vacation each to burn before even touching our rainy day fund. Jointly we have 80 year with the company.
My guys, while well paid do not have the same luxury. Im so relieved most are still working. And worried to hell about those that arent.
I have a very rare circumstance in America today. A huge company where people in many departments still see each other as family. But it is a somewhat Magical company. I saw managers with 35 years experience, hard men and women, with tears in their eyes when they found out some on their team would be furloughed.

(57,073 posts)It sounds like a company that cares about their employees and your post did not read as if you are in crisis mode. For that, I am glad.
Sounds like a great place to work with wonderful people & I wish you and all of them the best. 👍

And your correct. We are nowhere close to crisis mode. We will be fine.
But I worry like hell for the other over 50k employees of my company that arent in my situation. Mainly because the Unemployment Insurance system in Florida is just not working. When all those employees were furloughed the assumption was they could immediately begin receiving $875 a week. Even the wife and I, although way less than our normal income could easily make by on that. Now that seems months away. For someone making $14 an hour a month
with no income that will leave you hungry.
Im worried. But not about the wife and I.
Have a good evening.

(57,073 posts)for explaining. I was concerned that I had offended you. I share your deep concern for all your company's workers and all who lost jobs, as well as those who are forced to work without protective equipment.
I hope the mortgage & rent relief act passes, but I'm sure Moscow Mitch won't even bring it up for vote.
I really fear we might see an explosion of evictions and foreclosures, as well as car repos, which would cripple our society.

(11,949 posts)I had a conversation with a conservative coworker. Not a batshit crazy religious type because they dont last long in my company.
But a pretty hardcore Reagan Republican who is not as financially well off as the wife and I. After the relief bill passed I made a simple comment...I guess every congressman is and FDR now. He concurred and said its a good thing.
Suddenly big government is most desirable. Beats starving.

I think if they demand I come back, and I say no, I would have an argument age and my vulnerability with Gov shutdown. They like me and think they will work with me. I also think I would just say no and even if I lost the job just not say anything. I dunno. I am not sure what would happen though, so will be interesting to listen.
