Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said in a new interview that he would have no hesitation picking former first lady Michelle Obama to be his running mate, but added that he doubts she is interested in the position.
Id take her in a heartbeat, Biden told Pittsburghs KDKA on Monday when asked if hed choose Obama if she said she would be willing to be on the ticket with him. Shes brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends, Biden added.
Biden, however, said that he doesnt think she is interested in the position. I dont think she has any desire to live near the White House again, he said.
Biden said hes still in the process of deciding whom to pick. He again committed that his running mate will be a woman, but did not commit that his running mate will be a woman of color. Ill commit to that [it will] be a woman because it is very important that my administration look like the public, look like the nation. And there will be, committed that there will be a woman of color on the Supreme Court, that doesnt mean there wont be a (woman of color) vice president, as well, Biden said.

Given the current horrible circumstances Joe has been coming out with some good and well timed campaign stuff so far. I think he sort of has to be a bit cautious since 'attacks' against Trump must be done right or they could backfire.
It's early yet and sadly Americans tend to have rather short term memories. They're also very 'distracted' by a frightening life and death situation going on all around possibly even with loved ones and at home right now. I'm sure Joe will ramp things up as we close in on the election.

(57,425 posts)Back in 1972, I read a book called The Best and the Brightest. There's a quote in there that has stuck with me ever since.
Among those dazzled by the Administration team was Vice-President Lyndon Johnson. After attending his first Cabinet meeting he went back to his mentor Sam Rayburn and told him with great enthusiasm how extraordinary they were, each brighter than the next, and that the smartest of them all was that fellow with the Stacomb on his hair from the Ford Motor Company, McNamara. Well, Lyndon, Mister Sam answered, you may be right and they may be every bit as intelligent as you say, but Id feel a whole lot better about them if just one of them had run for sheriff once. It is my favorite story in the book, for it underlines the weakness of the Kennedy team, the difference between intelligence and wisdom, between the abstract quickness and verbal fluency which the team exuded, and the true wisdom, which is the product of hard-won, often bitter experience. Wisdom for a few of them came after Vietnam.
Please lay out in detail for me all of Michelle Obama's legislative experience.
You want someone who has been a senator or who has been a member of Congress or who has been a governor. She has been none of those.
You want someone who has run for sheriff once.

(57,425 posts)either of those branches of government?
I have no problem with her as a person, but this isn't about who you want to have a beer with. It's about who can govern.
Imagine a person with the same qualities as Michelle Obama, but her name is Michelle Smith, or his name is Michael Smith. Would you be so eager to select that person for the positions being discussed?

Well, you did.

(17,536 posts)Ms. Obama is a brilliant, sound, charismatic woman. As far as I am concerned, she is fully qualified to be the President of the United States. She is certainly light years ahead of the one we have now.
Biden needs his own VP, not Obama's wife.

(54,370 posts)I've met Michelle Obama a few times. She is everything good said about her--including sincere. If she says she is not interested, then she is not interested. I'm sure she has made that clear to Biden in no uncertain terms. If there were the slightest chance that she WERE interested, Biden would know that better than anyone, and I'm sure he would have been far more evasive in his response.

(9,213 posts)I love Michelle Obama, I think she's wonderful and I thought Barack was the best President of the last 100 years, but the last thing we need is another person in there who doesn't understand how Govt works and doesn't have any proven leadership or a well rounded background of economic, social, legal, and defense knowledge to pull from.
I never understood this...wanting someone's spouse or kid to be President just because you liked the original person or think they are are good person. Political leadership and extremely complex and analysis and decision making isn't something you want to trust to someone who is just in there because they are nice.

(22,669 posts)A running mate should be chosen to shore up every vote possible. While controversial, Hillary Clinton's southern strategy didn't pan out. The best choice for VP isn't always the best direction to electoral victory. And it makes me nuts to have to admit that.
