Just look at Singapore. They did a lock down and stopped the virus more successfully than anyone. Then they opened up too soon, like we want to do in the South and now thousands a day are becoming infected.
It appears the Republicans and their friends want the virus to spread as much as possible here.
From the very beginning the Republicans in charge did nothing to halt the spread of COVID-19 here, and even downplayed it, making people feel good about not protecting themselves until it was WAY TOO LATE.
Now the entire economy is collapsing, and we are borrowing trillions to help a number of Americans, while ignoring others, and instead of dealing with the problem and waiting, people like Kemp of Georgia are opening up their states so thousands more will get infected, and die.
Republicans (many not all) seem to want as many people to die as possible. There is no other explanation. It is political. I do thank the Republicans who are treating this seriously, but none have went after Trump like everyone should be doing.
Why do so many Republicans want us all dead?

(1,822 posts)I dont think they want it to spread as much as possible. But I do think that they think if they dont open up the economy will be so in the toilet that Trump will lose and take the Senate with him. Theyre gonna bank on the populist message of fighting for working people and hope that the body count gets overlooked.

Christianity is the basis, and it just gets worse from there.

(36,464 posts)When they start losing family and friends in mass, then they will take it seriously. They will still try to find someone else to blame, but that's the one thing about repubs I've noticed over the decades: until it affects them personally, it doesn't matter to them. The economy is affecting them now. Covid not so much, but in two weeks? Their ignorance and gullibility will kill them. And a lot of us, too.

(10,196 posts)They know Trump and his pack are going down so they are pulling out the stops. I dont think they are playing their hand well and its all going to backfire spectacularly. Unfortunately that will cost a lot of lives. We are too far away from the election and their actions have plenty of time to show results. Even some of the brain dead foxers will open their eyes or their numbers will be reduced by deaths. Im not hoping for that, but thats what I think will happen. And it will become the case close enough to the election that that even those who cant remember what trump said and did a week ago will manage to figure it out. Hopefully.

(2,227 posts)And rest assured, they WILL try. The question is can they get away with it?
Here is a scenario...
The Supreme Court has already washed their hands of interfering in elections because those are "states" responsibilities. If a state's legislature votes TO suppress and gerrymander, so be it. Cool beans.
That also could mean that if the state's legislature, who controls the elections in that state, decides to NOT hold the election in that state because of "health issues" (masquerading as orders from the white house), so be it...
If suit is filed with the Supreme Court to force the election, what do you think the odds are that the Supreme Court, on a 5-4 vote, will REVERSE itself and INTERVENE to STOP the election on behalf of the offended party, Trump?
It would be another of those, just this once, never again, slap us if we even MENTION it, rulings, just like Bush v Gore.
I put NOTHING past them.
Are we ready to go to the mat for this?

(24,412 posts)It's not in the Constitution. Trump's term and the House and whatever number of Senators standing for election end in January and we either have an election or we basically have no government. It can't or won't happen. They'll try to fight mail-in voting or easing of voting rules if the virus is still around and causing havoc, which they will think will drive down turnout but there's no way they are outright cancelled. No state would want to be disenfranchised, especially Republican-controlled states Trump needs to win.

(10,196 posts)Seems to be a common thing with Trumpers. Whether its conscious or not, they let him throw shit out there and see if anything sticks. Wouldnt be surprised at all if they try it just to add to the confusion while they are trying every other dirty trick in the book.
