Michigan's largest hospital to lay off 2500 employees

https://www.freep.com/story/news/health/2020/04/21/beaumont-lay-offs-coronavirus-job-cuts/2995090001/

Beaumont Health, the state's largest hospital system with about 38,000 employees, announced Tuesday morning it is laying off about 2,475 workers and will permanently cut about 450 positions because of the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, CEO John Fox will take a 70% pay cut, other executives will take pay cuts up to 45%.

“I am extremely proud of our team’s rapid response to COVID-19. While many front-line employees have never been busier, other parts of our operations have drastically declined or ceased," Fox said in a news release. "We must make difficult, quick decisions now to protect and readjust to an uncertain future.

This is why medical care can not be treated in any way as 'a market'. It is a utility, and must be maintained and financed at a level adequate to meet emergencies as well as normal usage.

center and we are having to lay off staff as well. With no 'regular' patients/procedures all health care facilities are having cash flow issues.
