Trump says the measure of his success against coronavirus will be the final death toll.

How's he doing?

For the past several weeks, a fixture of President Trump’s daily coronavirus task force press briefings has been his insistence that the ultimate measure of his administration’s handling of the pandemic will be the number of Americans killed by COVID-19.

At Monday’s briefing, Trump said the latest projections for coronavirus fatalities proved the wisdom of his implementing a travel ban from China and the guidelines of his coronavirus task force recommending that states institute social distancing practices — practices that he has recently encouraged residents of some states to end.

“We did the right thing, because if you didn’t do it, you would have had a million people, a million and a half people, maybe 2 million people dead. Now we’re going toward 50 or 60,000 people,” Trump told reporters. “One is too many, I always say it. One is too many. But we’re going toward 50 or 60,000 people, that’s at the lower — as you know, the lower number was supposed to be 100,000 people. We could end up at 50 to 60 [thousand]. OK, it’s horrible. If we didn’t do what we did, we would have had, I think, a million people, maybe 2 million people, maybe more than that.”

Public health experts agree that by shuttering schools and businesses the U.S. avoided a large number of fatalities.

The grim prediction of up to 2.2 million American deaths from COVID-19 was contained in a report by researchers at the Imperial College of London, based on the worst-case premise that the U.S. government would take no action to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

So far more Americans have died from COVID-19 than did in the Korean war. This ain't over yet. Keep shooting your mouth off Trump.

All you've done for the last 3 months is play golf and masturbate yourself in front of the press corps.

Honestly, Mr. Rude Pundit, where oh where, is KKKarl Roves Leather Slave right now, this country sure could use his sacrifices in the White House basement to offer an alternative outlet for this mis-administrations Madness....

But, to him, both are considered a success.

I pointed that out a month ago. It is the obvious dodge, but it will only fool his blind faithful. He will do the same with the economy. No matter what condition the economy is in, he will claim that, because of his beautiful leadership, it is not far worse.

I would be like Trump walking into a crowded room and killing half the people in the room, then bragging that he personally saved the other half.

Every day, I keep thinking that something is going to happen today to begin mitigate our present situation, and every day, it just keeps getting more and more insane. It is really like a bad dream.

I am beginning to wonder exactly what is in those "chem-trails."

The final death toll will be devastating and it's all his fault.

into a place where he had to pretend he was a part of the protective measures.

He was against them before he was for them and as soon as he was for them he was against them again.

Now he's trying to take credit for something he would never have done if he could have had his way.

When the death toll hits 60,001, he has empirically failed and should be forced to resign. The only questions asked at that contemporaneous presser should be relative to that metric, e.g.:

"What time will you be leaving?"
"Have you cried today?"
"Are you planning to take the silverware?"

The final death toll will be well north of 60,000. Given the amount of time we had to prepare, our deaths per million ratio looks like shit, and it's only going to get worse.

Serious question: do conservatives think the death toll will drop to 0 once we hit the downward slope of the curve?

But he will exceed even this number so wait for him to move the bar again. Deaths are not dropping and even if new infections are leveling off opening things back up prematurely will make it take off even higher. That’s obvious to anyone with a few brain cells that are operative which leaves out the majority of rethugs.
