I was stunned by the poverty of many blacks there, though Im sure there were many that poor in E cities. Long lines of unpainted shacks that didnt appear to have electricity and I presume running water and indoor plumbing. I suppose its probably better now but all I could think is they werent living much better than their forefathers. This was a very rural area. Or maybe it was Mississippi. So long ago Im not sure now.
