Tennessee woman gets coronavirus after bragging about not social distancing

A 21-year-old Tennessee woman who bragged on social media about not taking the coronavirus outbreak seriously has been diagnosed with the deadly illness, according to a report.

Ireland Tate joked about not following instructions to stay home and practice social distancing amid the pandemic just days before she fell sick, news station WZTV reported.

In a social media video, the Nashville resident told her followers that she’s “aware that we’re supposed to be self-quarantining and social distancing” to “keep everyone safe” — but that she wasn’t worried.

“Cool. I get it. I just don’t think that I’m going to get the virus,” Tate said in the video.

Sorry to any 21 year olds on DU. I remember my choices around that age. Experience is a harsh but effective teacher in life. Hopefully she will survive this situation without too much damage. Hopefully she will take something away from it and not be so quick to think herself invincible in the future.

And MOST HOPEFULLY, she did not infect other people because of her own naive arrogance.

She bragged about not not distancing because she didn't believe she would get it. Did not get it that the reason for distancing.is to stop the chain of transmission. Selfishly made it all about herself and whether or not she would get it.

Here's a statistic in Kansas of positive tests. There is a higher percentage in the 20-34 age group than in two groups that represent 65-84 year olds. At that age most figure nothing can hurt them and that's why CV will explode when all those "good ole boy" Governors re-open their States.

Excellent read! 👍

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existential_Psychotherapy_(book)

Existential Psychotherapy is a book about existential psychotherapy by the American psychiatrist Irvin D. Yalom, in which the author, addressing clinical practitioners, offers a brief and pragmatic introduction to European existential philosophy, as well as to existential approaches to psychotherapy. He presents his four ultimate concerns of life—death, freedom, isolation, and meaninglessness—and discusses developmental changes, psychopathology and psychotherapeutic strategies with regard to these four concerns.

Their demonstration of personal "specialness" is really on display these days.

and while I didn't have any illusions about being invulnerable to illness at that age, I still did enough magical thinking in other areas to make up for it. 21 year olds get to be that dumb.

If it persists 4 years later, then we can call their sanity into question.

you were an old maid if you weren't barried by 21. High school girls had weddings, some as young as 16, I often wonder what happened to those poor girls.

So I clutched my ragged spinster's cloak around me and decamped for Boston. The expiration date there was in the 40s.

If she learned from it and got a lot wiser, then there's hope for her yet, although it's awful that the awakening has to come from a disease that could just as easily have killed her. You shouldn't need to drive into a tree to figure out that driving at 120 mph on rural roads is foolish.

For a lot of people who contract the virus, maybe it isn't a big deal. Some never get sick or show symptoms.

But.... they can still spread it. And they can spread it to people who may not be physically equipped to fight off the virus.

And then there's the 3rd part of the story... those people can spread it.

And so on.

At least some saving grace is she is now warning her careless friends.
