You see these weird white guys getting overly patriotic, and they have their fucking flag hats on and their flag drawers and their flag pick-ups.
(They're saying) I'm American man, I'm American, fuck all these fucking foreigners. I'm American, I'm American!
And you like, hey, calm the fuck down! And their was a lot of accepted racism when the war started. It was accepted. "I'm American man, I'm American. Fuck all these foreigners!" And that was cool. "I'm American man, I'm American. Fuck the French!" That was cool. "I'm American man, I'm American. Fuck all these Arabs!" And that was cool. Then they went to "I'm American man, I'm American. Fuck all these illegal aliens!" Then I started listening. Cause I know niggas and Jews is next. It's like any day now. That train's never late.

PLEASE every black, Latino and female GO VOTE and drown out the voice of the persons supporting drumpf.

(1,184 posts)But like many here, the fact that Trump has even 1% of support will always baffle me.
The urban/rural divide is crazy. That's where so many of our differences lie these days. What is happening in our rural areas that make them so strongly conservative? Is it a lack of exposure to different cultures and points of view? All a product of the Southern Strategy? That is particularly when the big party switch finally happened for good.
I think of past days (such as the Depression) when rural voters knew that Democrats had their back against corporate interests. So many of them belonged to unions too, such as coal mining unions. It's a shame they've been turned to voting against their interests.

(15,337 posts)Why does Trump do better with African Americans than the past several Republican nominees (Romney, McCain, W Bush, Dole, etc.)? While those guys weren't exactly friends of AA's, Trump is undoubtedly more racist than any of those four. Can anyone deny that?

I posted the link to the 2016 exit polls, but if you go to the address bar you can simply change the year at the end, going all the way back to 1976.
Obviously the exit polls are not perfect. In 2016 they clearly understated HRC's performance among Latino voters, as has since been demonstrated (the media refuses to report that, of course).
But these exit polls give us a basic sense of what has been happening, with most of their numbers roughly accurate. And ever since Reagan we have seen a big gender gap in most years. Some years the gap has been larger than others, and in 2016 it reached an all time high.
30 points would be an extraordinary margin. I can't believe that a single poll is showing it to be that large.
In the end, I think the gap will come way down, because Biden will ultimately do much better among men. I think he could win by 14 points nationally, and a total landslide in the electoral college. Any win that big would probably involve a good deal of support from male voters and a reduction in the gender gap.
