There's a virus, and an illness. Are they both named the same thing? Covid-19 vs. Coronavirus....
Is it like AIDS where you are HIV-positive before you get sick, but then you have AIDS once you are sick?
It just occurs to me that I may sound ignorant/uninformed when I'm referring to this because I may not have the vocabulary correct.

Coronavirus Topical Guide
The singular possessive form of virus is viruss, not virus.
We recently updated our AP Stylebook Online Topical Guide to covering the coronavirus and COVID-19. This is just one of several terms we added to help you write clearly for your audience:

Coronavirus Topical Guide
COVID-19, which stands for coronavirus disease 2019, is caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2. When referring specifically to the virus, the COVID-19 virus and the virus that causes COVID-19 are acceptable. But, because COVID-19 is the name of the disease, not the virus, it is not accurate to write a new virus called COVID-19.
