His company cut 20% of the workforce. This sucks no way around it.

Until there is a change to the situation, may the UI checks be ever in your favor ...

(68,556 posts)like sitting at home and was looking forward to going back to work...the company did a pretty good job in terms of safety. Thank God we finally got our unemployment. Got two deposits today...it had been messed up and Ohio is finally seeming to have made some fixes like chats and stuff like that; he was furloughed before being laid off. We also have insurance with General Motors as hubs retired from there so we activated it today. We are better of than most. We paid our mortgage and are caught up on bills as we have some savings...but it is a scary time.

(32,017 posts)My daughter felt so bad when she lost her job due to the Coronavirus. She knew it was important, and she felt responsibleeven though she wasnt, and I reminded her of that fact.
This pandemic is taking a serious psychological toll on many of us. I wish you well.

(68,556 posts)Seriously, Trump caused this...he has done a terrible job and is incompetent...I went to High School and college in the North East ...we all knew that Trump was a failure...he bankrupted my Dad's friends...real POC . I prayed that nothing huge would happen on his watched...but here we are.

(13,776 posts)In a situation in which we all already feel kind of helpless, this is like having your legs knocked out from underneath you.
Like you, I'm glad unemployment is better than usual (and I hope you don't run into too much red tape or long waits while you get it sorted out), but this still sucks so much, especially when everything else is already unstable and uncertain. I'm so sorry.

(68,556 posts)work...silly as you are not supposed to be going out and looking for work...but the computers are not really made for this. We did get two deposits today...have not received the $600.00 additional.

(68,556 posts)Things are going to get bad in Ohio...the silver lining might be Trump loses here. We have been through this before...he worked in autos since college...but it is always hard.

(68,556 posts)General Motors is down...when they go back up, it will be on two shifts in the plant not three shifts. his soon to be former company makes a part for them...and there will be no need for three shifts there now...so they cut the workforce by 20%.

(2,900 posts)Same thing happened to my wife.
Twenty years with the company and decided to close the New York office rather than weather the storm.
We know exactly the full range of emotions that you folks are experiencing.
Best of luck to your family!
