I wonder if it's because a filer owed money either in 2019 or in 2018 if they haven't filed 2019 taxes yet. I went to the FAQ page and read that you'd get direct deposit if your taxes showed a refund due (thus IRS has bank info handy), soc security or RRretirement. Feds have my bank info from my civil service pension.

and it wasn't otherwise provided they will mail a check when they get around to it even if both taxpayers get Social Security. It seems to the IRS people cease to be individuals when they file a joint tax return. Fuck this government.

As I posted elsewhere on this thread, IRS is way down in budget and 20% of staff, and Congress just sprung this on them. Can you imagine all the factors that have to be accounted for in programming this into the IRS computers?
When you demand much more work out of a smaller staff, you don't get perfection.

At one time there was talk of 6000 per person. And then 2 checks of 1250. But the end result is one check for 1200 per person and 500 per child. I don’t believe another check is coming.

And I know a number of others who are getting the same message.
The thing we seem to have in common is owing money on our 2018 tax returns and not yet having filed for 2019.

Has anyone who owed money in 2018 or 2019 gotten their money yet? That would require you to enter your direct deposit information since the IRS says it cannot use direct debit information that was used to pay taxes.

Doesn't it seem strange that that $1200 check works out to be only $100 a month for one year, for people who will be experiencing, over the next 2 years, probably 10 times that amount in unplanned expenses? If they live through this, which, seeing as how the elderly are the chief target of the virus, may only go to burial services. While at the same time, businesses get millions in loans they don't have to repay. Seems like a pittance, especially when you hear that commercial on tv that says, over and over again, that SS only covers $225 for your funeral, when the average cost is over $8000.

This year, I got a whopping $14 as a cost of living increase in SS. The same day that letter arrived, I received a letter from local electric company notifying me of an increase of over 6%, and another one from the city for 6% for trash, water and sewer. So, my cost of living increase actually lets me have an extra cup of coffee, once a month. Wow. Thanks for nothing.

go to the form. It says, right there, "If you receive Social Security benefits, this app will not be able to give you any information."

So, I wasted my time filling it out. Elsewhere on the site, in a FAQ, it says if you receive Social Security, we will use your deposit information to deliver your payment. When? It doesn't answer that. So, it will come, at some point, I guess.

people who filed joint returns, who don't have direct deposit info on file with the IRS, and receive Social Security by direct deposit will receive paper checks according to the adjusted gross income mailing schedule. To the IRS, "individuals" does not mean what the rest of the world thinks it does.

It's the first time I've used the tool and gotten a response other than "error" or the same status you received.

We have always done auto deposit for taxes and my husband's social security for as long as we have been filing taxes. I have no idea why they decided to include us in the check drop. We'll see if it actually shows up. I hate that I have to see Trump's ugly-ass signature.

It looks like the payment info database has been updated. When I entered my info to the "get payment" screen, got a "you are eligible" message, then a question asking me if I owed money or got a refund and the amount, then if I wanted direct deposit or a check. I entered my info using my 2019 taxes that were filed back in Feb, but got a message back saying that didn't match their info and to use my 2018 taxes. When I entered that data, got a message saying I'd get a direct deposit.

If you are getting a check, the IRS is issuing them from lowest AGI first to highest last, which makes sense to me.
