He was coughing, wheezing.
"I think I might have that crap", he told me.
Me: "GET YOURSELF TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM."
He: "Good news is that State Farm is rebating some money because of low auto usage."
Me: "Who cares. You could barely get that out. GET YOURSELF TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM."
He: "I think I'll call my doctor right now."
Me: "We're wasting time."
And I hung up.

(405 posts)Have a good friend who's wife was a claim adjuster / supervisor for State Farm. Very cold person -- kind of like the most money driven land lord. Admitted that her great salary and big bonuses were due to her ability to deny claims. She was an expert at the small print and delay tactics.

(11,949 posts)But she was going to go in and see her accountant about her taxes in late March. My sister, after pleading with Mother and calling the accountant convinced Mother that she does not need to be there and dropping them off was just as good. She dropped them off on a Friday. The following Tuesday her accountant was diagnosed positive. I told my sister she saved Mothers life.

Great job in keeping your mother safe. I hope she stays safe and healthy.

(29,534 posts)It's so ingrained in us to put work above all else, and it doesn't help that employers have tended to be rigid.
No good comes of almost 50,000 Americans dying so far, but I hope at least that it doesn't end up being in vain.
