Goodheart (4,595 posts)
Just got off the phone with my car insurance agent. Omigod.
He was coughing, wheezing.
"I think I might have that crap", he told me. Me: "GET YOURSELF TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM." He: "Good news is that State Farm is rebating some money because of low auto usage." Me: "Who cares. You could barely get that out. GET YOURSELF TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM." He: "I think I'll call my doctor right now." Me: "We're wasting time." And I hung up.

1. Wow. State Farm, like a good neighbor, State Farm! I couldn't resist...State F. was my ...
former insurer, who I long ago replaced with a better insurance company. Don't miss them one bit. Hope the agent is okay, though...

5. Been a customer for 48 years.
Every time I respond to one of those "you might could get a better rate" ads I never seem to be able to save much... so I've never switched.

16. Good Neighbor Who Takes More Than They Give
Have a good friend who's wife was a claim adjuster / supervisor for State Farm. Very cold person -- kind of like the most money driven land lord. Admitted that her great salary and big bonuses were due to her ability to deny claims. She was an expert at the small print and delay tactics.

3. I got a surprise check from my insurance company, yesterday.
It is not State Farm, but seems to be fair and considerate.

for auto insurance. They announced a 15% rebate on auto premiums for April and May.

10. Going to an ER is not the best advice.
People should call ahead to their doctors office to see where they are supposed to go.

17. As a rule, you DON'T go to the emergency room; you go to your doctor...
They can arrange a test AND determine if you need to go to the emergency room (limited capacity; higher risk of infection) or isolate at home.

19. My mother is 81 and is totally socially isolating
But she was going to go in and see her accountant about her taxes in late March. My sister, after pleading with Mother and calling the accountant convinced Mother that she does not need to be there and dropping them off was just as good. She dropped them off on a Friday. The following Tuesday her accountant was diagnosed positive. I told my sister she saved Mother’s life.

25. Thank goodness. Your mom and your family were lucky.
If we had competent leadership in the White House, and proper information was being regularly disseminated to everyone, we wouldn't need to rely so much on good fortune.
Great job in keeping your mother safe. I hope she stays safe and healthy. |

21. We have to wrest ourselves from this Calvinist work ethic....
It's so ingrained in us to put work above all else, and it doesn't help that employers have tended to be rigid.
No good comes of almost 50,000 Americans dying so far, but I hope at least that it doesn't end up being in vain. |
