One hidden effect of the Trump Presidency which might last for decades . . .

One hidden effect of the Trump Presidency which might last for decades will be on comedy.

Specifically on satire. Think of how lax the satirists have become, their target too easy, characterizing himself, slapping on a clown-face and shit-miming for hours a day! Hell, they hardly have to turn on their word-procesing programs. Give him a twitter-machine and he'll make deadline every time. They want copy, he'll give them copies of copies and more.

So what happens when he goes and the possible targets are the least bit nuanced, will they be able to focus? Will satire die?

I was lit prof. for 37 years and know the ancient roots of satire.

I was joking to make a point about just how obviously incompetent and militantly stupid our current resident is.
