HEY ROMNEY, IF YOU'RE DONE EMBARRASSING YOURSELF, WHERE ARE YOUR TAXES?

As a tax-paying, voting citizen of the United States of America, I demand that you show us your tax records to prove you are fit for consideration as our President.

I doubt it will help you at all, though.

How about another prod from Reid. Maybe sheriff Arpio should dispatch a deputy to find a copy of Mitt's taxes. Since the sheriff has already dispatched a deputy to the foreign country of Hawaii, a trip to the Caymans shouldn't be that daunting.

Romney is already taking a hit for not meeting the minimum legal requirements. He's not entitled to security briefings until he's cleared, which ain't exactly informing his foreign policy expertise right now.

But now I'm interested in whether or not Romney can make it all the way to Election Day without releasing the rest of his returns. Would electors even be permitted to cast a vote for him if he fails to meet the minimum requirements? Can he turn in his returns after the election but before the Electoral College assembles?

Because if he can, he'll do that.

http://goingconcern.com/post/romney-tax-returns-be-released-october-15th-advisor-says-which-we-respond-duh

For his 2011 returns, but that's the final filing date for the IRS, not according to the law on Presidential elections.

It may be that there is no law on publicly releasing returns, only Jimmy Carter's precedent.

In which case Romney simply won't do it... unless Anonymous does it.

Observers here at DU have speculated that Romney has been waiting for a time when his numbers have closed with President Obama so that the negative results of the release won't permanently disable his chances. But time is running out for him now, and a release two and a half weeks before the election won't be enough for him to make up from the hit he's sure to take over it.

We can safely assume that the information is highly damaging, otherwise Romney would have released the information in the summer doldrums and used his remaining time to repair the damage. His refusal suggests that the damage which will be done won't be so easily repaired.

This week might actually be the best time for Romney to do it, before his blackmailers pull the trigger and while the President's post-convention bounce is dissipating. I doubt he'll do it, though. Romney relies heavily on deception at every turn, and adding actual facts to his campaign is the last thing he wants.

Did he use so many loopholes that he really didn't pay any taxes for ten years, like Harry Reid says? Were all those loopholes legal? Would they stand up to scrutiny? He used to help church members with their taxes; did he use iffy loopholes to save them money too?

Did Mitt share his tax savvy with the LDS church accountants? Up until a few years ago, I sent my tax forms to the IRS office in Salt Lake City, Utah. Could it be that they covered for members of the church? And finally, another possibility, did he take the tax amnesty deal and now showing past forms would show how much money he cheated the USA out of all those years?
