Ya know, if Hillary were president,

Yes, we'd have excellent, rational, science-based, companionate and effective leadership through thus crisis.

And we'd have as low a death toll as reasonably possible.

And that's hugely important.

But we'd also have republicans whining and lying and complaining and cheating, and the media would go along because they've never, ever passed up the chance to bash on Hillary, and so in all likelihood, we would lose in November.

So maybe one small silver lining in all this is, with a pandemic and severe economic contraction, it's going to be rough for the incumbent party in November. So, from an electoral point of view at least, it's a good thing that's not us....

1. Actually, we wouldn't have this crisis.

No democrat would have fired the pandemic team or defunded the agencies that take care of things like this. We would not have been left vulnerable the way MF45 left us.

2. We still would have had a crisis. The most responsible, prepared countries still have a crisis.

We would have had a coordinated national policy, we would have had better distribution of ppe, we would have started the social distss as being earlier, we would have gotten a jump on producing ventilators and so on.

But people still would have died. But let's 90% of the deaths were attributable to Donnie's incompetence and evil. Republicans still would have scandalized the fact that 5,000 people had died by this point.

Look at how they scandalized the whole email thing, when there was zero evidence of any harm whatsoever in that entire "scandal". Zero secrets leaked, as far as anyone knows.

5. No- there is NO silver lining here- the majority of the deaths that could have been prevented

We would have had testing and isolation at the start which would have prevented what is happening now. Are you trying to say it is good that so many people are dying because R will get blamed? It is never good. And a lot of the crazies that support dump and R won’t blame them anyway.

The entire concept of a silver lining is that it's found in a rain cloud. The whole thing in its entirety is a bad thing, but there's always something good in every tragedy. Some small mitigation of what's otherwise a complete disaster.

Yes, many of the deaths were preventable and Hillary would have done a much better job of keeping us alive and safe. Obviously I'd rather live in that world than this one, but I don't have much choice in the matter.

My main point was that in that world, Hillary would have a tough tine getting re-elected because republicans and the media make it so everything has to be perfect for democrats to win. Hard to see how a democratic president could get re-elected during a recession and with people dying, even if she's doing the beat job humanly possible, because that's how our twisted political system rolls.

The silver lining in this world is that Donnie's re-election chances are bleaker with the recession and the deaths, not to mention the incompetence in policy and in practice and even in rhetoric.

That is is no way to suggest I'm happy with anyone dying. Please.

Fdr couldn't get re-elected in today's political climate during a recession with Americans dying in a crisis.

Any democrat.

Plus, I never said anything about Hillary running as the challenger in November, only as the incumbent in the alternate world where she had won in 2016. I think Hillary would have had a good chance of winning in this world, this November, as the challenger.

Donnie made it probably ten times worse, but we still would have had a disaster.

Who gives a damn? You, clearly, or else you wouldn't have posted multiple replies....

would have started shooting by now. We've have at least one Alfred P. Murrah-style Federal building bombing so far, and Rush Limbaugh would have formed a radio consortium with Alex Jones and Sean Hannity to direct armed gangs to liberal gathering places, a la Rwanda, to commit mass murder.

But the COVID-19 death toll would be lower. The pandemic emergency response team would be hailed the world over as one of the best. Our allies would still look to the US as a world leader in times of conflict and uncertainty. And working families would have health care and financial assistance during the shut-downs while the corporate billionaires would have to get by on out-of-pocket expenses.
