A Touching Film Compiles Quarantine Dispatches from Around the Globe

Echoing each others’ sentiments of hope and optimism during uncertain times, the folks who contributed to a new short film have joined together despite being thousands of miles apart. “A Social Distance” is a collective look at global life during COVID-19 featuring dozens of people, ranging from a 93-year old Malayan grandmother to a 19-year old Slovenian man, from the 30 most-affected countries.

Directed by Ivan Cash and Jacob Jonas, the crowd-sourced project compiles clips of people’s hand-washing practices, their stocked and bare fridges, and emotional messages about their worries. Some dance to the original score played by various musicians from their respective homes. Despite its anxiety-producing subject matter, though, the compilation is surprisingly hopeful.

Find more work from Cash and Jonas on Vimeo. You also might like this wildly choreographed music video filmed entirely on Zoom.

This was a touching video, thank you for posting it. I hope it's all right if I mention what also came to mind while I watched it.
Being fully aware I'm privileged to stay home and that my refrigerator is full, I found the video relatable in that sense, but in the back of my mind throughout I was thinking of the hospital workers, grocery store employees, transit workers, truck drivers, mail carriers and others who thankfully still have jobs but don't have the luxury of shutting themselves off from the danger that lurks out there in the world right now. I hope that doesn't come across as unnecessarily negative, they're just thoughts that the video prompted.

no, of course it doesn't. Similar thoughts are always on my mind regarding our front line folks. Most being women and people of color. Pay them a freakin' living wage, provide them with sick pay/health care, allow them to unionize, etc. Most of all, at this time, keep them as safe as possible (ugh, don't get me started on that).

I totally understand.
