He is too stupid to be a competent liar, much les a good liar.
His appeal is to racism, and to greed. The greedy rich get more money, and the racist 90% of his voters see Trump being an open racist.
Trump can openly say what many really wish to say openly.

(52,123 posts)his personality "works" because it exploits some basic bugs in many peoples' algorithms for understanding other people.
most notably, people know someone's lying when they act sheepish or admit it or look like they're trying to weasel out of an awkward situation. if someone reacts angrily and seemingly confidently when challenged, and doubles down on the lie, people think they must be telling the truth because that's how they think a truth-teller might react, and certainly not how a liar would react when caught.
donnie learned to exploit this by simply never showing any signs of acknowledging he's lying, or of acknowledging he's wrong, or of acknowledging anything adverse to him.
so many people fall for this again and again, because that heuristic works pretty darn well on the vast majority of people. but it fails miserably with donnie because he will *never* admit anything adverse.
and it's not just the republican core that falls for it. the media gives him far more chances than they'd ever give anyone else who lied anything close to this level. certainly not any democrat.

(52,123 posts)but yeah, really, at what point do they accept reality??

(42,641 posts)But many people learn that certain people simply cannot be trusted. Not all people, or scam artists would have no target for their scams. But yes, many do fall for lies if the liar sounds authoritative. And part of the problem with Trump is that the media never exposed him for what he really is. His main exposure happened when he was the star of The Apprentice. Many obviously saw the staged show as reality.
The US corporate media knew that Trump was a fraud, but he was great for their ratings, and the advertising revenue associated with high ratings, so they deliberately covered up for his lies, or presented them as simply another opinion. The same treatment was given to Reagan, who lied nearly as much as Trump, and was equally as racist as Trump, but the media created the myth of Reagan that many now accept as reality.

(3,722 posts)he is such a BAD liar, completely unconvincing every time he rips of yet another absurd statement. Yet the trump leg humpers will believe anything he says no matter the lack of credibility.
With as much practice as he gets regarding lying, you'd think he would be better at it by now.
