(115,281 posts)Every time he does some galactically stupid thing, people say "It's over!" But it isn't; he keeps coming back. Politically he's one of the Undead. He might be a Draugr.
"Draugar possess superhuman strength, can increase their size at will, and carry the unmistakable stench of decay. According to Gregg Smith, "The appearance of a draugr was that of a dead body: swollen, blackened and generally hideous to look at." .... They exist to guard their treasure, wreak havoc on living beings, or torment those who wronged them in life. The draugr's ability to increase its size also increased its weight, and the body of the draugr was described as being extremely heavy." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draugr

(9,932 posts)this one is going to stick, if we have anything to say about it.
of course it's never over until it's over but I think we will look back and say that this press conference when he told people to inject disinfectant was a huge pivotal moment.

(9,932 posts)this is the one we've been waiting for. it's our manna from heaven.
there is no explaining this one away.
it's too outrageous, even for him.
and it's on video.
forget the political discussions. just keep playing this video over and over again. retweet it. comment on it. repost. replay.
don't let this one get away,
and it will destroy him.

(12,761 posts)"Read the transcript!" they exhort. Yeah, so that exact text string didn't fall out of his mouth, but even the word-salad context of his remarks makes it clear that he, at a minimum, was hoping the professionals could look into some kind of disinfectant insertion (for which Trump would want to take credit for inventing), and you just KNOW some rabidly ignorant people out there ( ignorant in that they still think Trump is a smart man) are going to decide to skip waiting for the day they can hopefully get their Magic Lysol pills from the pharmacy and will simply "try something" at home.
Because MAGA.

(15,020 posts)So much should have already cut through the noise already, and it hasn't, so I don't expect much lasting impact from this latest outrageous stupidity either.
The charade is never over, or it won't be over until we hopefully vote the idiot out of office.

(9,932 posts)what i'm saying is this is a pivotal moment and it is going to have huge repercussions and he just won't be able to shake this one off. that is, if we keep retweeting it over and over

(63,658 posts)keep on him, and needle the hell out of him. We are not like his branch-covidians.

(15,020 posts)...but I still don't expect for more than a small shift of a few percentage points polling and likely voting, an ephemeral shift that could be wiped out easily by even the most comparatively minor Biden brouhaha.
I normally stay well away from political discussions with my crazy right wing sister, but this one issue was so out there that for the first time in literally years I messaged her specifically to challenge her on the obvious insanity of Trump's latest comments.
Not surprisingly, however, it was still all the usual evasion and one-sided excuses and what-aboutism and both-siderism and whatever distraction and deflection she can make to avoid facing that she could possibly be wrong about Trump.
Oh, she'll admit something minor like "he can be a bit of a jerk sometimes" (only after making it clear that practically any Democrat is somehow way worse), but she was actually buying into both the idea that Trump was "just brainstorming" and that he was also being "sarcastic" somehow at the same time, and then did this incredible series of mental backflips that what Trump was saying about disinfectants was just his non-expert way of talking about medicine (as if somehow being an non-expert excuses confusing those terms), and had a ready-to-go article about some random respiratory therapist defending Trump's insane rant.
She's actually pretty smart -- but sadly turns her intelligence toward the job of creating ever-more-elaborate and crazy rationalizations for whatever she wants to believe is true. It doesn't fill one with much hope.

Maybe then it would stick, otherwise in a few days this will pass and he will be back at it.
