Is now the time to talk about reducing gun violence?

After all, right after a terrible mass shooting is never the right time, according to some people.

COVID-19 seems to have slowed down gun violence... so does that make now the time to talk about?

Nah... people can't be expected to think about gun violence at a time like this!

1. With their logic, we shouldn't even talk about COVID-19

It's still happening, we shouldn't talk about it now /s

But why are republican blaming China and WHO? It's so hard to follow their logic and rules.

whatever kills people but we aren't shutting down the country. I haven't heard one of them say guns are killing people.

Two or more guns used came from the US (illegally, of course).

...regardless of circumstances, but just for the record, I'd recommend, at a federal level, not just state-by-state:

* Better enforcement of existing gun laws.
* Universal background checks.
* Waiting periods.
* Legally required safety training.
* Closing gun show and private sale loopholes.
* Banning of sales of weapons that have no realistic use for hunting or personal self-defense.
* Same for large-capacity magazines, bump stocks and the like.
* Buy-backs like Beto O'Rourke proposes.
* High taxes on ammunition.
* Revocation of "stand your ground" laws that go as far as defending things like the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Probably a few more things if I keep thinking about it, but I think you get the picture. Most, if not all of this, is pretty standard for the Democratic platform, and widely supported by many Americans.

11. That's certainly the case. As for your specific proposals:

* Better enforcement of existing gun laws.: Agreed

* Universal background checks.: Agreed.

* Waiting periods.: Partial agreement. I would argue for a licensing system that incorporates a waiting period for one's first firearm. After that, there's no point.

* Legally required safety training.: Agreed, as part of a licensing system.

* Closing gun show and private sale loopholes.: Agreed.

* Banning of sales of weapons that have no realistic use for hunting or personal self-defense.: Disagree. "Assault weapon" bans are based on cosmetic features. Therer's no practical difference between an AR-15 and a Mini-14.

* Same for large-capacity magazines, bump stocks and the like.: Disagree. One can change reduced capacity magazine in seconds, rendering a ban on normal capacity magazine pointless. As for bump stocks, they've recently been banned.

* Buy-backs like Beto O'Rourke proposes.: Disagree. The blowback from confiscating tens of millions of the most popular rifles in America would ensure Republican rule for a generation.

* High taxes on ammunition.: Disagree: What's the point? Even if the already existing tax was increased by !000%, it wouldn't prevent someone bent on a massacre from accumulating a couple of hundred rounds.

* Revocation of "stand your ground" laws that go as far as defending things like the killing of Trayvon Martin.: Agreed.
