For the first time in 6 weeks, Spanish children are allowed to venture outside, as the government eases a #coronavirus lockdown on its youngest citizens.

Children under the age of 14 can now take walks with a parent for up to one hour and within one kilometer from home

with our founding tradition of liberalism, equality and individual rights.

Same for France and Italy in some respects for that matter. An American friend who had her children in French public school for a while was not happy with very different attitudes from what she was raised with.

I've read that hot climates tend to have more conservative cultures, and we see this in our southern states versus northern. In Europe that's offset by other factors, of course, including effects of a lot of cultures on each other, while we're relatively isolated comparatively.

Btw, all peoples have "whackos" who get carried away by bad leaders. Let's not forget the nations elsewhere that fell to fascists and socialists on the far right and left, sometimes effectively both in one, while our New Deal mainstream came together and held strong in America.

They forced them to stay inside for 6 weeks? Now they can only take a walk with a parent in their own neighborhood for an hour... And that's relaxing their restrictions? Was this in a big city? We would be crazy if we had to live like that. I could not manage to not go for walks and hikes for that long. We have been going hiking some place new each weekend. Using mainetrailfinder.com to find new trails. We use the trail in our neighborhood a few times a week too.

It is the reason why there numbers are decreasing and our increasing or staying flat.

I went to the park this weekend and almost no one was self distancing 6 ft apart. Also no one were wearing mask. The park and trails were filled with people. I eventually thought it was unsafe and went home.

Self-discipline and self-sacrifice for the greater good. At this point, I'll gladly not good out now in order to end quarantine ealrier.

In Spain right now, I can officially walk my kids further than my dog.
As we have a decent yard it is not really an issue but I do feel for the majority who are stuck in apartments.

Otherworldly.

I hope you are doing well (and am glad that you are fortunate to have some outdoor space).

...it seems a bit extreme that merely walking around outside was or is prohibited, unless it applied only to dense urban areas where lots of people walking for exercise at the same time would immediately turn into overcrowding.
