Red State Welfare.
It is Sunday. I am only going to work 4 or 5 hours today. I live in a blue state. I need to pay the bills for the red states so they can all go to church today, then go fishin, huntin, barbequein, and then to more church. Then it is off to the klan rallies, and militia training.
Not only do I have to pay for the Jesus Slackers, their votes count A LOT more than mine.
I live in a blue state.
With problems, we can't afford to fix, like homelessness.
Thank You Cuomo for pointing out how badly we are being screwed in New York, California, and Washington.
Not only are we paying people to go to church, they pollute waaaaaay more than us blue staters per citizen. So not only are we paying more, they are literally killing us, and our kids with their anti environment cult republican religion. Death to blue states!
Time Mitch's Kentucky paid its way. We got problems to fix here.
Jeezus doesn't pay the bills.

(4,619 posts)Few who claim to be Christian give a damn about what Christ taught. It's all about power, shoving their bible in the face of strangers, and attacking pregnant girls.

They say they worship Jesus, but right-wingers want nothing to do with helping the poor, sharing resources, comforting victims, showing mercy, promoting peace, etc.

As one who attempts to practice the Good Word, but goes into the ditch daily, I have uncharitable thoughts or speech or judgment, then am pulled back. I judge myself. I think critique is a better word.
God forgive me, I been judging * numerous times day and night.
There's a petition in our litany: 'pray for the president'. I refused to say those words for shrub and most especially now for * and his 'legions'.
Not one on earth is 'perfect' in all ways. But what we continue to witness is a gross perversion of humanity. Twisted and so the twisting is foisted upon others.
They. Do. Not. Care.

I replaced "evangelicals" because there are too many so-called christians who may not be saying it, but they aren't trying very hard to distance themselves from it, either.
They need to take their religion back. I believe the good book says to judge people by their actions, not what they say.
I, however, don't put much stock in "the good book". Been there, done that, grew a brain.

We can cut Spokanistan loose, along with the rest of the east side, and get on just fine. We've got the money-makers, Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon, the ports of Seattle and Tacoma. We'll be fine.

(32,675 posts)Christians, ask them to repeat THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS. Those words in red. Those words, to me is what Christ was about. Who ever he was or wasn't.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

(4,554 posts)Quebec would never agree as the French language & culture influence would be even more diluted and I expect would eventually pretty much disappear.
Further to that, I'm not sure many Canadians as a whole would agree either as we would be "outnumbered" by a wide margin which would inevitably result in changes many would not like.

(63,208 posts)I've heard that the GOP is "on the ropes" since some time in the early 90s, and that's just when I became conscious of it. I'm sure we've been hearing about the impending doom of the party since long before that.
Somehow, this cult of zombies manages not only to keep coming back, but to keep coming back stronger and with more damaging, wide-reaching policies with each resurrection.
I won't believe that the GOP is in trouble until every last elected official is out of office.

(9,291 posts)Im a native New Yorker, living in Kentucky now. Raise the property taxes, especially on the horse stables here. Raised them on me too. We screwed over our teachers and tried to take away their pension. The state, now finally back in a democratic governor, should raise taxes after coronavirus passes through.
People in Kentucky who bitch can move. However, I think the greediest state is South Carolina, and they need to raise taxes there too. Florida isnt great either.

(43,156 posts)You need policy, legislation to dissolve this contango. It would take years - decades - to change consumer spending habits and equalize subsidies between states on a per capita basis. Blue state voters will be aware of it, can they become any less red? Red state voters will ignore it. Can I consume any fewer products from Kentucky or Indiana or Mississippi? Reducing subsidies might involve whacking the social safety net even more. Subsidies for lower income citizens are a lot like natural disaster declarations. We do them because we believe in supporting people because we are Americans, not because they've earned it. Republican policies aside, we don't punish people for being poor, we give them a hand and opportunity.
So I'm not on board with the premise. Mitch may have sundered his own reelection chances further, he may drag a Senator or two in red FundieLand, but he's not blown up his whole party. He's looking for political opportunity to enrich the wealthy and it's caused him to put his foot in it because he doesn't understand or hasn't gamed out the complexity of the financial, federal, legal, and political consequences. Gov. Cuomo doesn't want to go there either. That's why he flamed it back at Mitch.
