There are so many people who are dying at home and not being tested.

Hopefully the rate will decrease, but 100,000 is totally possible here as this crisis continues without any effective therapies or vaccine.

The 1st wave killed a few tens of thousands of people.

The 2nd wave killed more than the First World War.

Perhaps the most frightening aspect of COVID-19 is the still scientifically unknown side effects of the virus. Some of these effects have been presenting as blood clotting possibly causing strokes, preeclampsia, liver and kidney failure, heart failure, and some evidence of brain and neurological issues resulting from the virus.

Sadly, in America, we can almost wager on when a second wave will occur with all the talk of re-opening society as if there's an all clear.

We still do not fully understand how the recovered patients will fare in the long term. Is there immunity against further outbreaks or does the virus "hide" in the body much like a herpes virus, only to reignite itself.

The most telling sign for me is the relative silence from the virologist and immunization community in the face of this pandemic. These professionals are nervously monitoring the spread while feverishly trying to come up with a treatment/vaccine. Even Fauci looks nervous discussing this. They're concerned and simply unsure about where all of this goes.

Bottom line: As long as the virus remains active, our only realistic chance of avoiding it is with intense social distancing measures and isolation. The alternative is to let the virus take it own course and let the bodies fall where they may. Tragically, there are many people in our country who endorse this cataclysmic course. But even then, it will not stop the virus and may actually allow it to mutate into something far worse.

What a time we live in now. Stay safe!
