Trump expands battle with World Health Organization far beyond aid suspension

President Trump and his top aides are working behind the scenes to sideline the World Health Organization on several new fronts as they seek to shift blame for the coronavirus pandemic to the world body, according to U.S. and foreign officials involved in the discussions.

Last week, the president announced a 60-day hold on U.S. money to the WHO, but other steps by his top officials go beyond a temporary funding freeze, raising concerns about the permanent weakening of the organization amid a rapidly spreading crisis.

At the State Department, officials are stripping references to the WHO from coronavirus fact sheets, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has instructed his employees to “cut out the middle man” when it comes to public health initiatives the United States previously supported through the WHO.

The United States will now attempt to reroute the WHO funds to nongovernment organizations involved in public health issues, according to interviews with U.S. officials and an internal memo obtained by The Washington Post.

Cronyism. That last line in the quotes above tells you what's up as another factor in the ulterior motives involved.

Kushner is on it. It is about diverting the funds to cronies. What Kushner is doing has no oversight. It's a Fascist-style money grab and disbursement to the chosen. The organizations "involved with public health interests" are the key here.

but the US is not a member of WHO? Will we be banned from getting the vaccine or med, or will we be last on the list?

I can't believe the WHO would allow themselves to be slapped in the face without recourse in some way. Keeping a successful cure from being purchased by the US would be an option, and I can't imagine many would blame them.

It is just such an amazing thing to watch. The total destruction of our country by a mad man that we can't seem to stop. We should be trying anything, anything at all that's legal, to get rid of him. I wouldn't wait for the election. We might not even get one. We should impeach, 25A him, anything.

But, you will forever own this monster, even though you most likely will never admit that you voted for him or attended one of his rallies.

When you discover that Trump et al is stealing PPEs from the hospitals who paid for them, after being told to find their own, then you know, or should know, what a fucked up government we now have. That should tell you all you need to know about Trump and his pandemic response. He's grifting and profiting on our misery. He doesn't want the virus beaten, by anyone until he has extracted all the profit he can from it.
