Is there anyone out there whose only income is Social Security and who has actually received a stimulus check? Do we get a stimulus check if our only income is SS?
I haven't been able to get a satisfactory answer on the net but thought that maybe someone on DU might have an answer.
Thanks in advance.

(13,681 posts)....if your SS usually comes direct deposit, that will happen with the 1200 dollars. Into your account.
If you get a paper check from SS, that's what will happen with this as well.
The date that will happen is not yet clear. I have read that these will happen this next week.

(60,011 posts)It said that the first wave of payments had gone to people who had filed income taxes.
The 2nd wave goes to Soc Sec.& SSI folks, beginning May 1.
It may or may not show up with our regular Wed. SS checks.
After all the direct deposit $$$$ is done, they will be sending paper checks, in waves.
That should help out the Post Office, eh?

(20,513 posts)This is where I'm at after reading numerous websites. I still can't get a status on the Get My Payment portal.
I have choice words at this point.

(29,559 posts)They are processing people who earn over a certain amount last. Get My Payment kept saying, "We cannot determine your eligibility". Finally, on Friday Get My Payment finally said we were eligible. We are going to be getting a pro-rated amt. Get My Payment prompted us to put in the DD info, which we did.

(20,513 posts)Except I've been collecting SS benefits for a number of years. Husband started collecting in 2018 while still employed full time. Then he passed away suddenly early last year. I have now been receiving his benefit amount as I am allowed in lieu of mine. We filed joint status for 2018 but did not do a withholding or quarterly payment on the extra SS amount, instead just paying the lump sum due which I did. My bank account info is on file with the SS dept. which IRS should access in order to deposit the stimulus.
I still get that message you all were getting. Somewhere online said if you are receiving SS, that Get My Payment portal isn't set up to give you a status.
It's screwy.

(60,011 posts)It said people who could not access their info were already in the IRS system to get their $$$$$.
A bit awkward, but I saw it as their way to keep server traffic down.

(4,033 posts)I'm usually pretty good at tracking stuff down, but I kept running into dead ends on this one.
Just another reason to absolutely LOVE DU!!
We aren't desperate for the money, although it will be helpful, just need to know its coming (eventually).
Thanks again.

(9,605 posts)SS is my only income. I rec'd the "stimulus" check on 4/24. My SS is direct deposited, however I panicked and filed a tax return (free through turbo tax) but it didn't have bank information since I didn't owe nor get a refund. Guess that's why they sent me a check.
Anyhooooooo ... yes, I got the check. Had I not filed the return, maybe I would have gotten the money direct deposited, sooner or later, but who knows.
Did you go to IRS.gov and click on "my payment?" That ought to tell you something.

(23,723 posts)... then you should get a check.
Same if you don't get SS, don't file with IRS, but get VA disability/retirement, you should get one. Stephen Miller's bigoted exception probably still applies.

(6,261 posts)Went off without a hitch, but they don't allow copying and pasting routing and checking account numbers. Makes sense, really.
Since we never get a refund, we'd never given the IRS our direct deposit info. The limits were more generous that I expected. Since we file married jointly, earning less than $150,000 should give us the full $2,400.

(4,033 posts)I asked the question about when SS recipients who don't need to file Income Tax would get their $1,200. I asked it on Monday. Got lots of good information.
On my bank run Tuesday night/Wednesday morning our deposits showed up in our account.
I'll have to start asking more questions when I want something to happen.
