PA-GOV: Toomey Signals He Might Run for Governor

One of the worst-kept secrets in Pennsylvania politics is that Sen. Pat Toomey is considering a run for governor in 2022.

So when the Republican rolled out a plan Thursday to reopen Pennsylvania’s economy, and do it more quickly, in many cases, than Gov. Tom Wolf has planned, it renewed speculation about Toomey’s intentions. Four Pennsylvania GOP insiders who spoke to The Inquirer all saw it as an attempt from the senator to show how he would lead as an executive as he weighed in on a critical issue that has raised the profiles of governors across the country.

“It was a pretty clear smoke signal” that Toomey is thinking about a bid for the statehouse, said Charlie Gerow, a Republican strategist based in Harrisburg, though he, like everyone else interviewed, added that he didn’t believe any decision has been made.

In an interview before his 2016 reelection campaign, Toomey told The Inquirer it was “likely” that if he won a second six-year term, it would be his last in the Senate.

He was one of the main authors of Trump's tax cut ensuring that the bulk of the tax cuts went to the wealthiest individuals and corporations. He also was responsible for the repeal of the Obamacare individual mandates.

He is a poster boy for everything that is wrong with Republican economic policy.

That F-er didn't "win" his Senate - Russia handed it to him. NO F-ing way he won.
I'll fight to the end to keep him out of ANY seat, except perhaps an electric chair (aiding in murder with IQ45) - but nobody uses them anymore.
Plus, I believe if the PA Dems put up a good candidate they could deliver another Dem seat!!

He won't be re-elected. He only made it back in 2016 on Trump's coattails and the weak turnout on our part due to Hillary's campaign's poor planning.

He knows he won't have a chance at governor, but will definitely draw plenty of funding. He'll make sure as much as possible goes to friends and family.

And is very popular...He is from Braddock, and has a great background. Presently he is Lt. Governor. I am surprised Toomey would contemplate running against him.
