"SNIP......

The outbreak of COVID-19 at a restaurant in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou was a puzzle.

The suspected index patient was a visitor from the coronavirus’s epicentre in Wuhan. But the eight other customers who later tested positive were not sitting close enough for droplet transmission, and most of the patrons and staff avoided infection altogether.

A team of local scientists eventually came to an eye-opening conclusion about the episode: tiny particles of virus had hitched a ride on currents created by the eatery’s air-conditioning.

That runs counter to the prevailing view that the novel coronavirus is transmitted only by heavier “droplets.” But for a group of civil engineers at the University of Alberta, the finding was no surprise. In their world, they say, it’s well known that building ventilation systems are efficient disseminators of viruses and other pathogens, and they believe the COVID-19 bug is no exception.

Just look at the cruise ships, the prisons and the nursing homes. All tightly packed and sharing a ventilation system.

regulations is what they do.This story broke in canada so i am sure the nursing home will be advised on what to do about air conditioning. We don't have access to him. I miss him a lot. There are 3 staff in his building who tested positive so they are off. They keep the staff working on the same floor every shift so it was only on the two floirs the staff was on that they have tested everybody. Not my dad's floor thank god. They have been shut down to public or any non-essential staff since mid March. Sending them vibes every day. And calling my dad once a week. They are getting back up from city recreation staff to do the social things like call family and such. So i am looking forward to that as my dad can't answer the phone.

I can't imagine how hard that is for you both. I'm so lucky...my 84 years old mom has her own apartment 5 minutes from me. I do her shopping, pick up.her meds and we visit weekly on her patio with our masks on. I'll be praying for your dad. It will get better.

Yes i would love to visit with my dad outside. There is a dock and a gazebo as his nursing home is on an island. The baby ducks my dad likes to feed. However we have already bern advised by the nursing home that we can't expect to visit outside with our loved ones. I am disappointed and grateful at the same time that they are so strict. I know he is in the hands of very good people. I think he misses his private caregivers who are so lovely. Especially one who used to tease him all morning. Not easy times for anyone. And i am not alone. Many are worse off.

And outside spaces aren't much better.

Your best defense is isolation from other humans.

I just steer well clear of people and wear a mask. I've got 100 disposables coming tomorrow. This cloth are OK, but the surgical are more comfortable for longer periods of time. I think so anyway.

particles of pollution and move through the air that way too. So at the risk of stating the obvious, this is getting scarier.

The odds of walking through an empty outdoor space and managing to ingest enough virus floating in the air to get sick are extremely low, but I don’t want to get shouted at for being rational. So I’ll skip it.
