Used to be working from home for a couple days was a treat

I’m retired now, thank God, but my old coworkers have been working from home for weeks and I hear from some of them. At first I thought work would be a nice distraction, but working from home that’s not really the case. Getting up every morning, showering, and going to work required some discipline but working from home you can lay around in your underwear and barely get out of bed. Depending on the nature of your work. Anyways, it seems that folks I have talked to are pretty sick of it.

At least j had the kind of job where that was possible unlike many, so those people have every reason to be grateful.

But the guy who took over my job after I retired asked me for some advice about how to handle certain situations today. I couldn’t really give him an answer he could work with. When I thought about it, so much of what I’d been doing the last few years required a lot of coordination. And to do that effectively i had to know a lot of different people and what their responsibilities were. That came from many years of experience and a variety of positions within the organization. It just made me think how experience isn’t valued enough these days and also how so many manager types have so little knowledge of what goes on outside their own little sphere. A good manager realizes that and leans on his team. Our present national “Chief” thinks he knows everything which guarantees his continuous failure.

Very little of my old job could be done at home (just some paperwork), and social distancing is impossible when you're in a flight simulator with two and sometimes three other people and practically on each others' laps. I have to wonder how that's being handled now.

I have zero self discipline. It always can be done later or tomorrow. I don’t think a company would keep me long. Going into work, having deadlines and other things is much better for me. I own my own business now and the scariest words from the mouths of customers are, “do it at your convenience “. Yieks!!!!! They never should tell me that. Lol.
