The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (Cares) Act, signed into law March 27, provides a $1,200 refundable tax credit for individuals and $2,400 for joint taxpayers. People whose adjusted gross income qualifies them to receive a stimulus payment are supposed to receive an additional $500 for every dependent child under 17. The Treasury Department and the IRS reported last week that an initial 88.1 million payments worth nearly $158 billion had been issued.
But the rush to get money to tens of millions of people has resulted in payment errors.
The Cares Act set out a way for people to verify that they received the right amount and seek help to resolve problems with their stimulus payments.
The law says a letter should be mailed to a taxpayers last known address 15 days after a stimulus payment is sent. The letter is supposed to indicate the method by which a payment was made (direct deposit or check, for instance), the amount of the payment and a phone number for the appropriate point of contact at the Internal Revenue Service to report any issue.
-snip-
However, what should have been an instructive letter coming from either the Treasury or the IRS reads more like a message that the Trump reelection campaign would send out to voters.
Just as we have before, America will triumph yet again and rise to new heights of greatness, the letter says.
This language is just another way of restating Trumps 2016 campaign slogan, Make America Great Again, or the presidents 2020 rallying cry, Keep America Great.

(12,480 posts)I was supposed to have a recertification meeting April 23rd
But the office was closed due to pandemic. I am on SSI disability.
I wonder if anyone else who had a recertification cancelled due to coronavirus are slipping through the cracks or haven't gotten thier checks.

(11 posts)That's what I'm going to do with mine, if it ever arrives. I'm going to put it in a lovely envelope, put a forever stamp on it-probably John Lennon-and send it back to the jerk. I am also participating in the billion postcard thing. Every day I mail it a postcard with "you're fired" written on it. Occasionally I also write a state and how many people have died there, then I send it off, then I post a pic of the card on facebook. I know a lot of people who are doing the postcard thing are buying USPS cards, but I have a couple hundred picture postcards, so I'm using them.

(15,649 posts)in protest of the signatory. Unfortunately, I have no real clue how to do this aside from taking a smart phone video and posting it either on FB or attached to texts or emails which probably won't get much circulation. Anyone have any suggestions?

Most people probably think he personally sent them a check instead of congress. 😡🤬
