Costco shopping report, April 29, Eugene, OR

I qualify for the early geezer hours. Not many shoppers. Most were wearing masks but not all were respecting distancing. I was staying back waiting my turn at the eggs when a woman just barreled right through my space. Happened again at the apples. Got a 30 pack of TP so I’m probably set for the rest of the year. Almost no pork, not much chicken, lots of beef but pretty expensive. The fish case was bare. Maybe they hadn’t stocked all the cases yet. I bought tofu instead of meat, but it doesn’t freeze well so didn’t buy that much. Lots of canned beans. Big bags of jasmine rice. $200 later, I’m good for a couple weeks. I can make my own bread and tortillas.

No groceries just light bulbs, batteries, tums, lol, all the stuff I do not buy in a grocery store. I have been using instacart of that. But, only about 10-20% wearing mask while all the employees wore masks. I expected more to.

but a good cause and they "We will continue to give back to our community and those in need through this effort. For every mask purchased, we will be donating one to a healthcare facility, small business, or relief workers in need. You get one, we give one!"

Using the template from NYTimes. I’ve got a steamer trunk full of mostly cotton remnants. The first one took forever, but I’ve got it down now. Cranked out 10 in about 6 hours. I’ve given most away but kept 5. Since you’re in Eugene, maybe we can work something out.

That is nice. pm me sometime. I will buy you a Bro. While distancing.

Went by the bottle drop place on Broadway near Chambers. Few masks, no distancing being observed. I put on my mask and gave my bottles to a guy from several feet away and ran.

How fun is that. I love my Eugene and our Gov has done a great job, I think.

6. Tofu freezes well IF you expect it will change texture. Hubby uses a lot in his ramen...

When it is defrosted, squeeze out as much water as you can and toss into soup or whatever. The texture is very spongy.

They were telling everyone that starting Monday face coverings were mandatory and you would be refused admission without. Short line to get in (maybe 5-10 minutes), light traffic inside, people mostly well-behaved. Still out of brown and jasmine rice, so we got a sack of CalRose. They had 25 and 50 pound sacks. We usually get the jasmine in 25 pound, so just got 50 pounds of the CalRose - we use a lot of rice during a normal week, anyway. Had to wait a very short time for them to finish grinding and packaging some beef, but the meat and fish cases were well-stocked. Did not have any of the usual 24-packs of eggs, so we got one of the 5-dozen packs (we usually buy 2 of the 24's, anyway). Lots of fruit and veggies - and didn't notice any blank sections of shelving, except where the other rice and sacks of beans were usually kept.

Got almost everything on our bi-weekly list, and checkout was super fast with almost no lines. This was early afternoon; the last time we went at about 2:30 and the lines to get in were a little longer, but still not deterring. Stocked the pantry and freezer, and brought home a rotisserie chicken for dinner and at least 2 other meals.

for groceries. A few more masks that I usually see, but it has been two weeks since the last trip. Still many who don't bother with the masks. I live in Washington state, but on the east side, or red side, so that might make a difference.

First time there has been a lot of TP, usually only a few cheaper brands in small packages. Very few things were not on the shelves, but there were employees stocking some isles. Store was not crowded at all. We got there about 15 minutes after they opened.

Cheapest gas price was $1.88 for regular, which is about .60 cents cheaper than two weeks ago.

I have found that Costco's meat is a lot more expensive than most stores, especially beef. They have their own chicken processing plant in North Dakota (? somewhere up there) too. I haven't stepped foot in my Costco for about 6 weeks, and am not up early enough for the geezer hours, so I'm glad they are forcing customers to use masks now.
